Background: The objective of this economic modeling study was to compare the cost effectiveness of fully automated retinal image screening (FARIS) to the current practice of universal ophthalmologist referral for diabetic retinopathy in the United States (US) health care system.
Methods: A Markov decision-analytic model was used to compare the automated versus manual screening and management pathway for diabetic patients with unknown retinopathy status. Costs (in 2021 US dollars), quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gains, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios were calculated. Sensitivity analysis was performed against a $50,000/QALY willingness-to-pay threshold.
Results: FARIS was the dominant screening strategy, demonstrating cost savings of 18.8% at 5 years with equivalent net QALY gains to manual screening. Cost-effectiveness status was dependent on FARIS detection specificity, with a threshold value of 54.8%.
Conclusion: Artificial intelligence-based screening represents an economically advantageous screening modality for diabetic retinopathy in the US, offering equivalent long-term utility with significant potential cost savings. .

Elder abuse is predicted to rise, and hospital social workers receive professional training to respond. A scoping review was conducted to map the breadth and extent of existing literature on hospital social worker roles in response to elder abuse. Key words searched across six databases and five journals were "social work*," "hospital*," "elder*," "abus*" and their derivatives to identify relevant literature.

Epilepsy, a highly individualized neurological disorder, affects millions globally. Electroencephalography (EEG) remains the cornerstone for seizure diagnosis, yet manual interpretation is labor-intensive and often unreliable due to the complexity of multi-channel, high-dimensional data. Traditional machine learning models often struggle with overfitting and fail in fully capturing the highdimensional, temporal dynamics of EEG signals, restricting their clinical utility.

Purpose: Children with incomplete recovery from Brachial Plexus Birth Injury (BPBI) experience varying degrees of upper limb impairment, and 20-30% require interventions to optimize function. A psychometrically validated measure of upper limb activity capacity is essential to guide shared clinical decisions for surgical and rehabilitation interventions.
Materials And Methods: Following the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis, this systematic review included studies on the measurement properties of the Brachial Plexus Outcome Measure (BPOM) - Activity Scale, a performance-based outcome measure of upper limb activity capacity in children with BPBI.

Background: Improving efficiency and reducing turnaround time are crucial in clinical laboratories. While automated analyzers such as the Beckman Coulter DxH 900 streamline workflow, subtle abnormalities like blasts and immature granulocytes (IGs) may be missed, especially in the absence of WBC-related suspect messages. This study evaluated whether integrating cell population data (CPD) with instrument messages could enhance detection accuracy.
