Article Abstract

A statistical Simplex Lattice Mixture design was applied to develop a new formulation based on a combination of three plants grown in northern Morocco: L., L., and M. We examined the extraction yield, total polyphenol content (TPC), 2'2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC). The results of this screening study showed that L. had the highest content of DPPH (53.22%) and TAC (37.46 ± 0.29 mg Eq AA/g DW) compared to the other two plants, while M. showed the highest TPC (18.52 ± 0.32 mg Eq GA/g DW). Furthermore, the ANOVA analysis of the mixture design showed that all three responses (DPPH, TAC, and TPC) were statistically significant, with determination coefficients of 97%, 93%, and 91%, respectively, and fit the cubic model. Moreover, the diagnostic plots showed good correlation between the experimental and predicted values. Therefore, the best combination obtained under optimal conditions (P1 = 0.611, P2 = 0.289, P3 = 0.100) was characterized by DPPH, TAC, and TPC of 56.21%, 72.74 mg Eq AA/g DW, and 21.98 mg Eq GA/g DW, respectively. The results of this study reinforce the view of stimulating the effect of plant combinations to achieve better antioxidant activities, thus providing a better formulation using designs of mixtures for the food industry and in cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. Moreover, our findings support the traditional use of the Apiaceae plant species in managing many disorders cited in the Moroccan pharmacopeia.

Due to the advantages of drug repurposing, the discovery of new chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of Chagas disease based on approved drugs has become a strategy for identifying new candidates. In this work, the antidepressant drug sertraline is reported, with an IC of 7.8 ± 1.

Microbes can be programmed to record participation in gene transfer by coding biological-recording devices into mobile DNA. Upon DNA uptake, these devices transcribe a catalytic RNA (cat-RNA) that binds to conserved sequences within ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) and perform a trans-splicing reaction that adds a barcode to the rRNAs. Existing cat-RNA designs were generated to be broad-host range, providing no control over the organisms that were barcoded.

While deep learning-enhanced Raman spectroscopy enables rapid sample analysis, model portability among spectrometers remains hindered by systematic interdevice variations. In this study, a Low-Rank Adaptation-based Calibration Transfer method (LoRA-CT) is proposed to perform parameter-efficient fine-tuning of deep learning models across spectrometers. By decomposing weight updates into low-rank matrices, LoRA-CT achieves superior calibration transfer with minimal samples, reducing trainable parameters by 600× compared to full parameter fine-tuning.

Introduction: Frequent glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) monitoring is recommended in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). We aimed to identify distinct, long-term HbA1c trajectories following a T2D diagnosis and investigate how these glycemic control trajectories were associated with health-related traits and T2D complications.

Research Design And Methods: A cohort of 12,435 unrelated individuals of European ancestry with T2D was extracted from the UK Biobank data linked to primary care records.
