Melanopsin-mediated visual and non-visual functions are difficult to study in vivo. To isolate melanopsin responses, non-standard light stimulation instruments are required, with at least as many primaries as photoreceptor classes in the eye. In this protocol, we describe the physical light calibrations of the display instrumentation, control of stimulus artefacts, and correction of individual between-eye differences in human observers. The protocol achieves complete photoreceptor silent substitution in psychophysical, pupillometry, and electroretinographic experiments for probing melanopsin, rod, and cone function. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Uprety et al. (2022)..

Crushing oral tablets can potentially aerosolize active ingredients in the medication and expose healthcare workers to drug particulates. Few studies have quantified aerosolized particulate matter generated during tablet crushing. Inhalation of patient medications can result in negative health effects to the healthcare worker, especially if hazardous medications are being crushed.

This study investigates the impact of melanopsin and illuminance on the pupillary light reflex and spatial brightness perception using metameric white light stimuli. A psychophysical experiment using the silent-substitution method was conducted at three typical indoor illuminance levels and two melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance (mEDI) levels. Results indicate that spatial brightness perception increases significantly with higher illuminance, while pupil size decreases with increased mEDI.

Delafloxacin is one of the newest fluoroquinolones with a unique structure, determining better pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, a better safety profile, and a broader spectrum of activity compared to older quinolones. We aimed to examine the susceptibility rates of delafloxacin, the genetic mechanisms contributing to resistance, and the serotype distribution in both invasive and non-invasive strains. A total of 301 streptococcal strains were tested for minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) to delafloxacin.

Herein, a bisphosphate ligand with extended aromatic rings having methyl substitutes at ortho-position named as 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl bis(dihydrogen phosphate) (tmbiphH) was utilized in zinc ion detection and the preparation of its cocrystals. The fluorescence sensing capability of tmbiphH for Zn ions confirms its high selectivity and sensitivity. Moreover, the density functional theory (DFT) calculations support the strong coordination between Zn and the phosphate functionality of the ligand, consistent with the observed sensing behavior.
