Article Abstract

We report on the use of a lab-on-CMOS biosensor platform for quantitatively tracking the growth of RAW 264.7 murine Balb/c macrophages. We show that macrophage growth over a wide sensing area correlates linearly with an average capacitance growth factor resulting from capacitance measurements at a plurality of electrodes dispersed in the sensing area. We further show a temporal model that captures the cell evolution in the area of interest over long periods (e.g., 30 hours). The model links the cell numbers and the average capacitance growth factor associated with the sensing area to describe the observed growth kinetics.

Queer temporality in Tony Kushner's angels in America.

J Aging Stud

September 2025

University of Graz, Department of American Studies, Attemsgasse 25/II, 8010 Graz, Austria. Electronic address:

Tony Kushner's Angels in America, written in two parts during the early 1990s, vividly depicts the experiences of queer individuals confronting the AIDS crisis. Examined through the framework of anocriticism and queer temporality, the play challenges traditional life trajectories focused on reproduction, aging, and progress. Drawing on the work of theorists such as Roberta Maierhofer, Jack Halberstam, and Elizabeth Freeman, this analysis investigates how the play's fragmented narrative and interplay of supernatural and historical elements blur the boundaries between past, present, and future.

Sexual pleasure in older age: haptic visuality and female eroticism in three contemporary Spanish films.

J Aging Stud

September 2025

Dean of Area Studies and Assistant Dean of Faculty, IES Abroad Barcelona (Spain) & Research Fellow, Aston University, UK. Electronic address:

This article explores the representation of female sexuality in later life through the lens of three contemporary Spanish films: La vida era eso (2020), Destello bravío (2021), and Mamacruz (2023). Drawing from feminist aging studies, film theory, and concepts such as haptic visuality and clitoral sexuality, the study challenges the patriarchal, ageist, and phallocentric narratives that have long shaped cultural understandings of older women's erotic lives. Through close readings of these films, the article demonstrates how they subvert the dominant heteronormative gaze by foregrounding sensory pleasure, autoeroticism, and the reawakening of desire in older women.

"To love, to create, to express, to live"- a typology of aging poems by older men.

J Aging Stud

September 2025

Louis and Gabi Weisfeld School of Social Work, Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel. Electronic address:

Poetry writing can serve as a means for personal expression of feelings, thoughts, and attitudes toward various subjects, as well as for a deeper understanding of lived experiences and identity. The present study examined the aging experiences of men over the age of 70 (N = 15), living in a continuing care retirement community in Israel, as reflected in the poems they wrote. The poems were analyzed using latent content analysis, resulting in a typology of three types of poems: a) Preparation for end-of-life poems, b) Positive aging poems, and c) Nostalgic poems.

Simultaneous sensing and quantification of pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) are crucial for protecting the environment and maintaining long-term ecological sustainability. This study focuses on the bio-based synthesis of BiS-ZnO nanocomposites (BiS-ZnO(bio)) using bio-extract for dual-analyte selective and simultaneous electrochemical monitoring of phenylbutazone (PBZ) and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) in the environmental matrices. BiS-ZnO(bio) exhibited ZnO(bio) nanostructures embedded on BiS(bio) nanorods with an average rod length of 1409.
