Nociception is the process by which sensory neurons detect and encode potentially harmful environmental stimuli to generate behavioral responses. Nociceptor neurons exhibit plasticity in which their sensitivity to noxious stimuli and subsequent ability to drive behavior may be altered by environmental conditions, injury, infection, and inflammation. In some cases, nociceptor sensitization requires regulated changes in gene expression, and recent studies have indicated roles for post-transcriptional mechanisms in regulating these changes as an aspect of nociceptor plasticity.

Increasing long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to participate in regulating the progression of colorectal cancer (CRC), which is a common gastrointestinal malignancy. Here, the specific role and mechanisms of lncRNA LINC00294 were investigated in CRC. The expression levels of LINC00294, miR-499a-5p, and La-related protein 4B (LARP4B) in CRC cells (HCT116 and SW620) and tissues were assessed by RT-qPCR.

La-related proteins (LARPs) regulate gene expression by binding to RNAs and exhibit critical effects on disease progression, including tumors. However, the role of LARP4B and its underlying mechanisms in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain largely unclear. In this study, we found that LARP4B expression is upregulated and correlates with poor prognosis in patients with HCC.

Recent developments have mounted a stunning body of evidence underlying the importance of RNA binding proteins (RBPs) in cancer research. In this minireview we focus on LARP4A and LARP4B, two paralogs belonging to the superfamily of La-related proteins, and provide a critical overview of current research, including their roles in cancer pathogenesis and cell proliferation, migration, cell cycle and apoptosis. We highlight current controversies surrounding LARP4A and LARP4B and conclude that their complex roles in tumorigenesis are cell-, tissue- and context-dependent, warning that caution must be exercised before categorising either protein as an oncoprotein or tumour-suppressor.

Objective: This study aimed to introduce novel techniques for identifying the genes associated with developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to prioritize COPD candidate genes using regression methods.
Materials And Methods: This is a secondary analysis of the data from an experimental study. We used penalized logistic regressions with three different types of penalties included least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), minimax concave penalty (MCP), and smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD).
