Article Abstract

Vascular aging plays a pivotal role in the morbidity and mortality of older people. Reactive hyperemia index (RHI) detected by pulse amplitude tonometry (PAT) is a non-invasive measure of vascular endothelial function and aging-induced pathogenesis of both microvascular and macrovascular diseases. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to comprehensively identify germline genetic variants associated with vascular aging in a Korean population, which revealed 60 suggestive genes underlying angiogenesis, inflammatory response in blood vessels, and cardiovascular diseases. Subsequently, we show that putative protective alleles were significantly enriched in an independent population with decelerated vascular aging phenotypes. Finally, we show the differential mRNA expression levels of putative causal genes in aging human primary endothelial cells quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). These results highlight the potential contribution of genetic variants in the etiology of vascular aging and may suggest the link between vascular aging and cardiovascular traits.

In the cardiovascular system, neutrophils encounter mechanical cues such as shear stress, matrix stiffness, and cyclic stretch that influence their activation and NET release. Under physiological conditions, amyloid precursor protein (APP) is critically important for normal brain development, neurogenesis, neuronal survival, and synaptic signaling. Dyshomeostasis of APP increases deposition and accumulation of amyloid β (Aβ) in the brain parenchyma and cerebral blood vessels thereby leading to development of Alzheimer's disease and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. In this review, we critically examine existing literature supporting the concept that endothelial APP performs important vascular protective functions in the brain.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) substantially increases cardiovascular risk, with endothelial dysfunction as its central pathological mechanism. This review summarises the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying endothelial dysfunction in CKD and highlights recent advances in treatment strategies. The pathophysiology of endothelial injuries involves a complex network of multiple factors and mechanisms, including oxidative stress, inflammation, glycocalyx damage, ischaemia, hypoxia, cellular senescence and endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT).

Objective: Reveal the changing rule of the positional relationship between the uncinate process of cervical spine and vertebral artery by measuring the relevant parameters between the uncinate process of cervical spine and vertebral artery in different age groups.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 1240 cases of cervical spine imaging data from 2018 to 2021 in the Radiology Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University. The distance between the uncinate process superior ridge and vertebral artery and the maximum of pedicle transverse angle, the minimum of pedicle transverse angle, the range of pedicle transverse angle and the pedicle width were measured according to age groups.
