Gas-phase 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene (CH) and triplet aromatic 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene (CH) were formed for the first time through bimolecular methylidyne radical (CH)-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene (CH) reactions under single-collision conditions on a doublet surface. The reaction involves methylidyne radical addition to the olefinic π electron system of 1,3,5-cycloheptatriene followed by isomerization and ring expansion to an aromatic 1,3,5-cyclooctatrien-7-yl radical (CH). The chemically activated doublet radical intermediate undergoes unimolecular decomposition to 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene. Substituted 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene molecules can be prepared in the gas phase with hydrogen atom(s) in the 1,3,5-cycloheptatriene reactant being replaced by organic side groups. These findings are also of potential interest to organometallic chemists by expanding the synthesis of exotic transition-metal complexes incorporating substituted 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene dianion (CH) ligands and to untangle the unimolecular decomposition of chemically activated and substituted 1,3,5-cyclooctatrien-7-yl radical, eventually gaining a fundamental insight of their bonding chemistry, electronic structures, and stabilities.

Iron-cerium co-doped carbon dots (Fe,Ce-CDs) were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method using tartaric acid and L-tryptophan as ligands. Fe,Ce-CDs shows excellent peroxidase-like (POD) activity and nitrite (NO) can promote the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its blue oxidation product (oxTMB) due to the formation of ∙NO free radical. NO further react with oxTMB to form a yellow color via diazotization resulting in the absorbance Change at 450 nm.

A CoO/AgMoO/CeOternary nanocomposites photocatalyst was successfully synthesized through a straightforward ethanol-assisted chemical method. Comprehensive characterization of its structural and optical properties was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) analysis. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of CoO, AgMoO and CeO in the ternary composite sample.

ConspectusWhat does the word antioxidant mean? Antioxidants are supposed to be nontoxic, versatile molecules capable of counteracting the damaging effects of oxidative stress (OS). Thus, when evaluating a candidate molecule as an antioxidant, several aspects should be considered. Antioxidants are more than free radical scavengers.

We previously reported that the attempt to synthesize tetramethoxyindolo[3,2-]indole led to an undefined product. Now, it is confirmed that its instability is derived from the one-electron transfer from the tetramethoxyindolo[3,2-]indole derivatives to halogenated solvents under ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) light irradiation, forming a stable indolo[3,2-]indole radical cation while causing the carbon-halogen (C-X, X = Cl, Br, I) bond scission.

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is vital for effective optimization of pharmacological treatments. In this study, we engineered a chromatography column that is sensitive to temperature fluctuations, thereby enabling safe and straightforward TDM without relying on organic solvents. Silica beads were modified by applying poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogels, using a condensation reaction to modify the initiator, followed by radical polymerization to integrate the PNIPAAm hydrogel.
