Medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRTs) are associated with severe biomechanical consequences (loss of hoop force transmission) that are broadly equivalent to a total meniscectomy. The resultant increase in contact pressures predisposes to high rates of advanced medial compartment arthritis at long-term follow-up. Repair of MMPRTs is associated with significantly better outcomes than partial meniscectomy or non-operative treatment (including improved patient reported outcome measures and delay or even avoidance of arthroplasty).

Shigellosis.

Lancet

September 2025

Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA.

Shigella is a Gram-negative, facultative intracellular, gastric acid-resistant bacterium of the Enterobacteriaceae family, which includes four serogroups: Shigella dysenteriae, Shigella sonnei, Shigella flexneri, and Shigella boydii. Globally, shigellosis is the most common cause of invasive bloody diarrhoea in children younger than 5 years. Humans are the only natural reservoir and an inoculum of only 10-100 organisms is required for infection.

Investigating pedestrian crash injury patterns: A comparative study of children and non-children.

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department, University of Michigan-Dearborn, 4901 Evergreen Rd, Dearborn, 48128, MI, USA; University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, 2901 Baxter Rd, Ann Arbor, 48109, MI, USA. Electronic address:

Pedestrian injuries remain a public health concern, with child pedestrians being particularly vulnerable due to their unique physical and cognitive characteristics. This study presents a comprehensive analysis comparing injury severity patterns between child (≤14 years) and non-child (>14 years) pedestrians using Lasso logistic regression and advanced machine learning techniques, specifically Catboost with SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) values to interpret the models. By analyzing six years of national crash data from the Crash Report Sampling System (CRSS) from 2016 to 2021, we identify significant factors influencing injury outcomes for both age groups.

Standardizing single-cell approaches to osteoarthritis: Toward a comprehensive cellular atlas.

Osteoarthritis Cartilage

September 2025

Laboratory of Skeletal Biomedicine, IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND, Department of Cell Biology, Genetics and Physiology, University of Málaga, Málaga 29071, Spain. Electronic address:

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease marked by progressive cartilage degradation and complex cellular heterogeneity. In recent years, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has emerged as a powerful tool for dissecting the cellular composition of the osteoarthritic joint. However, constructing a complete and coherent picture of the OA single-cell landscape remains challenging, akin to assembling a puzzle from multiple sets, each with pieces of varying shapes and sizes.
