Article Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to longitudinally investigate the correlation between choroidal morphologic and vascular parameters and postoperative visual outcome in different stages of idiopathic epiretinal membranes (iERMs).

Methods: A prospective, observational, institutional case series of 102 consecutive patients diagnosed with unilateral iERMs were recruited at Peking University Third Hospital and were followed up for 12 months after surgical treatment with vitrectomy. Participants were classified into four stages according to current staging scheme. All eligible subjects underwent standardized imaging evaluation of choroidal parameters including subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT), choroidal vascularity index (CVI), and choroidal capillary perfusion (CCP) at baseline and each follow-up by enhanced depth optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA). Longitudinal follow-up of choroidal parameters over 12 months was analysed, and their correlations with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were also assessed for predictive prognostic value.

Results: CVI and CCP were significantly correlated with BCVA at each follow-up examination (all p < 0.05). However, SFCT exhibited no variation among different stages of iERMs at baseline (p = 0.981) or during follow-up (p = 0.520). The preoperative CVI correlated with 12-month postoperative BCVA (p < 0.001) and its predictive prognostic effect on BCVA was validated in multiple regression analysis (p = 0.006).

Conclusion: CVI varied among different stages of iERM and was significantly correlated with visual outcomes after the surgery. CVI could serve as a predictive prognostic marker in iERMs, which further indicates the underlying choroid should be taken into consideration in clinical evaluation of iERMs.

Immune-mediated chronic hepatitis is a common cause of chronic hepatitis in dogs. The clinical presentation, laboratory work, and imaging results are variable and not specific. Many dogs are subclinical in the early stages of disease.

Cofactors are external factors that can lower the threshold dose of an allergen and amplify the severity of allergic reactions, turning mild or moderate responses into severe anaphylaxis. These include exercise, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), alcohol, menstruation, and infections. Initially described in relation to food allergens and physical activity or NSAIDs, these reactions have been labeled under various terms, such as food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (FDEIA), wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (WDEIA), and food-dependent NSAID-induced anaphylaxis (FDNIA).

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) multimodal complex treatment (PD-MCT) is an inpatient therapeutic programme specifically designed for patients exhibiting parkinsonian symptoms. Established in Germany, this comprehensive approach addresses the multifaceted challenges associated with the management of PD, particularly in advanced stages or when complications such as motor fluctuations, dyskinesia, or non-motor symptoms become pronounced. The programme integrates pharmacological optimization, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychological support, among other complementary therapies, to enhance patient outcomes holistically.

Introduction: Surgical strategies for severe scoliosis often necessitate extensive approaches and major osteotomies to achieve optimal results. The objective of this study is to assess the perioperative outcomes of severe AIS patients with Cobb angle ≥100° undergoing single-staged posterior spinal fusion (PSF) without major osteotomies and pre-operative halo traction.

Research Question: Is it feasible to perform a single-stage PSF without major osteotomies for AIS patients with Cobb angle ≥100°?

Material And Methods: Thirty-five severe AIS patients with Cobb angle ≥100° who underwent single-staged PSF without major osteotomies or pre-operative halo traction between 2019 and 2023 in a single tertiary centre were recruited.
