Chinese chive ( Rottler) is a popular food from species in East and Southeast Asia. Most species possess characteristic aromas and have antimicrobial activity. In this study, the antimicrobial activities of root, leaf, and scape extracts of Chinese chive at different pH levels (3.0, 5.0, 7.0, 9.0, and 10.7) were compared. The most pronounced activity was produced by the scape extract, and the greatest activity was obtained at pH 5.0. HPLC and GC-MS analysis showed that the major active ingredient was 2-amino-5-methylbenzoic acid. The mechanism of action of Chinese chive scape extracts may involve the depression or disruption of cell membrane integrity, according to our results of the leakage of electrolytes and protein, as well as scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy observations.

Evaluating the olfactory preferences of emerging insect pests is critical to develop monitoring tools and improve early detection and management strategies. Here the chemical ecology and olfactory preferences of the allium leafminer Phytomyza gymnostoma Loew (Diptera: Agromyzidae), an invasive pest in North America affecting allium crops such as leeks and onions, were investigated. Three bioassay methods were assessed under laboratory conditions: wind tunnel, Y-tube olfactometer, and arena bioassay.

The respiratory tract is the primary entry point for inhaled particles from anthropogenic or biological origin such as respiratory viruses. Ambient particulate matter (PM) has adverse effects on the respiratory tract through mechanisms eliciting inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and other pathophysiological effects. At the same time, respiratory viruses cause a range of infections.

At the same time, agrivoltaic could have an impact on biodiversity, especially on farmland birds. We investigated the habitat use of birds on a high-mounted agrivoltaic trial plot with chive culture () in northern Germany.

Chinese chive ( Rottler ex Sprengel), an autotetraploid vegetable cultivated in Asia for over 3,000 years, possesses apomictic characteristics. However, issues like intricate genetic admixture and unclear phylogenetic relationships pose challenges for effective germplasm preservation and breeding advancements. In this research, we systematically assessed population structure, constructed a core collection, and developed a DNA fingerprinting system utilizing Hyper-seq sequencing data.
