Article Abstract

Yoga is a traditional Indian way of keeping the mind and body fit, through physical postures (asanas), voluntarily regulated breathing meditation, and relaxation techniques. The recent pandemic has seen a huge surge in numbers of yoga practitioners, many practicing without proper guidance. This study was proposed to ease the work of such practitioners by implementing deep learning-based methods, which can estimate the correct pose performed by a practitioner. The study implemented this approach using four different deep learning architectures: EpipolarPose, OpenPose, PoseNet, and MediaPipe. These architectures were separately trained using the images obtained from S-VYASA Deemed to be University. This database had images for five commonly practiced yoga postures: tree pose, triangle pose, half-moon pose, mountain pose, and warrior pose. The use of this authentic database for training paved the way for the deployment of this model in real-time applications. The study also compared the estimation accuracy of all architectures and concluded that the MediaPipe architecture provides the best estimation accuracy.

Background: Our previous studies demonstrated that the regular practice of recumbent isometric yoga reduced the fatigue of patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). Some patients with ME/CFS have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS); however, the effects of recumbent isometric yoga on orthostatic cardiovascular responses and whether recumbent isometric yoga improves POTS remain unknown. This pilot study was done to investigate the effect of recumbent isometric yoga on the orthostatic cardiovascular response of patients with ME/CFS.

Objectives Despite adequate pharmacologic treatment and transfusion support for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), there is an ongoing need to explore non-pharmacologic approaches for managing MDS symptom burden. Yoga has proved effective in oncologic patients. The aim of this observational study was to explore the feasibility of an 8-week online Kundalini yoga program, including its impact on symptom burden in MDS patients.

Background: Flexibility is a vital component of physical fitness, influencing movement efficiency and reducing the risk of injury. Hamstring tightness, a preventable issue, impairs flexibility and athletic performance. Paschimottanasana is a yogic posture purported to improve hamstring flexibility; however, limited empirical evidence supports its effectiveness.
