Introduction: Vitamin D deficiency can impact health and well-being and may affect workplace performance. Shift, indoor and night working, alongside variable awareness of vitamin D, likely puts ambulance staff at an increased risk of deficiency. Screening in one ambulance service detected that 46% of staff had insufficient or deficient vitamin D levels (i.

Narrative medicine is defined as a medical approach that utilizes the power of stories, both patients' illness narratives and healthcare providers' reflective accounts, to promote healing, foster empathy, and enhance the therapeutic relationship through close attention to the language, metaphor, and meaning embedded in illness experiences. Despite its growing importance in contemporary healthcare, comprehensive bibliometric analyses of narrative medicine research trends remain limited. This study aims to systematically map global research patterns, identify key contributors, and analyze thematic evolution in narrative medicine literature over the past two decades.

Objective: This study examines how individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) make decisions regarding their self-management (SM) in the first six months after initial rehabilitation. Specifically, it explores the decision-making styles and the factors that influence their choices.

Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 32 individuals with SCI at three- and six-months post-discharge, resulting in 64 interviews.

Background: Advance care planning (ACP) allows patients to detail their wishes in case they lose capacity. Despite low mortality rates, the high volume of surgery means that thousands of people die in the weeks and months following an operation. Perioperative ACP may benefit patients at high risk of complications and death by allowing them to discuss and document their priorities.

This special volume of Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Molecular Basis of Disease showcases a transformative era in biomedical research, driven by the convergence of multi-omics technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and systems biology. The volume is focused across eight thematic sections-spanning cancer, inflammatory and infectious diseases, neurodegeneration, cardiovascular health, autophagy, respiratory disease, and heme biology-this volume highlights how integrative methodologies are helping to simplify the complexity of disease mechanisms. These studies discuss not only biomarker discovery and disease mechanisms, but also how redox biology, lipidomics, machine learning, and proteogenomics are redefining pathophysiological frameworks.
