Article Abstract

Study Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate the value of the long-term average spectrum in the acoustic analysis of snore sounds arising from different sources in the upper airway.

Methods: Long-term average spectrum was used to analyze sequences of 10 consecutive snore sounds that had been divided into 2 groups, soft-palate type and lateral-wall type, according to the vibration site generating the snore sounds and the patterns of soft tissue collapse in the upper airway as identified by drug-induced sleep endoscopy. We calculated the first spectral peak, mean spectral energy, high-frequency energy, 0-1 kHz spectral energy, 1-5 kHz spectral energy, and 0-1 kHz/1-5 kHz difference from each group and compared the differences between them.

Results: All parameters except mean spectral energy showed significant differences between the 2 groups. The first spectral peak of less than 265.53 Hz, and the 0-1k/1-5 kHz difference of less than -11.6 dB strongly suggests soft-palate-type snore sounds.

Conclusions: Long-term average spectrum has potential application for snore sound source identification. We recommend using first spectral peak and a 0-1 kHz/1-5 Hz difference to identify soft-palate-type snore sounds.

Introduction/objective: Oral glucocorticoids (OGC) are conventionally used as first-line treatment for dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM). This study evaluated clinical and economic outcomes associated with long-term (LT) OGC use in DM/PM.

Methods: Adults with ≥ 2 medical claims of DM/PM 30‒365 days apart from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2022, and ≥ 1 diagnosis code of a physician specialty of interest were selected from the MarketScan Commercial and Medicare Supplemental databases.

Radon (Rn) is a naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the decay of uranium-bearing minerals in rocks and soils. Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels in drinking water is associated with an increased risk of stomach and lung cancers. This study aims to assess the concentration of radon in groundwater and evaluate its potential health risks in six cancer-affected districts, i.

Introduction: the progressive increase in the volume of primary knee arthroplasty surgery is leading in parallel to an increase in revision surgeries, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming decades.

Material And Methods: a retrospective observational study with 203 interventions in 201 patients with knee arthroplasty revision surgery at our center between 2018-2022, including the variables age, sex, body mass index, primary implant, time until revision surgery, mechanical alignment of the primary implant, cause of revision, revision implant, and need for secondary revision.

Results: the average age of the patients was 73.

The Union Cycliste Internationale recognizes several mountain biking (MTB) disciplines, including downhill, enduro, cross-country short track, cross-country Olympic, cross-country marathon, and multiday stage racing. Cyclocross is recognized as a separate cycling discipline. Both MTB and cyclocross include cycling on off-road surfaces of varying technicality on specialized bicycles purposed for the respective disciplines.
