Article Abstract

During a survey of myxosporean parasites of freshwater fishes in northern Vietnam, myxospores resembling those of the genus Myxobolus (Myxosporea: Myxobolidae) were found in the trunk muscle of 6 out of 35 specimens (17.14%) of wild goldfish Carassius auratus (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae). The mature spores were 12.0 ± 0.4 (11.4 - 12.6) µm long, 8.5 ± 0.2 (7.9 - 9.0) µm wide and 6.1 ± 0.2 (5.8 - 6.3) µm thick, containing two pyriform-shaped polar capsules unequal in size. The larger polar capsule was 7.6 ± 0.3 (7.1 - 8.4) µm long and 3.5 ± 0.1 (3.3 - 3.8) µm wide, and the smaller polar capsule was 6.2 ± 0.3 (5.5 - 6.7) µm long and 2.9 ± 0.2 (2.6 - 3.4) µm wide. Each polar capsule contained a polar filament with 3-5 coils. A phylogenetic analysis based on the small subunit rDNA (SSU rDNA) sequence revealed that this Myxobolus species forms a distinct branch in the phylogenetic tree sister to Myxobolus artus and Myxobolus cyprini, with DNA sequence similarity at 97.6% to M. artus and 97.5% to M. cyprini. A combination of the morphological characteristics and molecular data suggest that this is an undescribed species, and we propose the name Myxobolus hoabinhensis n. sp.

: Fat-free mass (FFM) loss after metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is associated with adverse long-term outcomes, including osteoporosis. Identifying biomarkers that predict excessive FFM loss can improve perioperative patient management and postoperative risk stratification. This study investigated whether preoperative amino acid metabolite (AAM) levels could predict excessive FFM loss after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

Biomass burning (BB) emits carbonaceous aerosols that significantly influence air quality in Southwest China during spring. To further understand the characteristics of spring BB and its original contribution to organic carbon (OC), daily fine particulate matter (PM) samples were collected from March to May 2022 in Pu'er, Southwest China. The concentrations of OC, elemental carbon (EC), levoglucosan (Lev), and potassium from BB (K) during the study period ranged from 5.

While employing hydrogels as conductive interconnects in flexible electronics, two intrinsic challenges require comprehensive solutions: performance degradation resulting from water evaporation and functional instability caused by strain-induced resistance increase. Thus, we integrate hygroscopic lithium bromide (LiBr) directly into hydrogel polymerization and exploit its multifaceted characteristics to develop a conductive hydrogel with humidity-adaptive water retention and strain-insensitivity. The synthesis is guided by the idea of "less is more", characteristics of acrylamide monomers (Aam), the silane coupling agent, and LiBr are synergistically leveraged to architect a hierarchical network comprising a primary backbone and dual-dynamic crosslinking.

June 2025

Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Stanford University, Stanford, California.

Objective: To report the first set of healthy euploid twin girls born after the transfer of three nonmosaic aneuploid, female embryos screened by preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A).

Design: Case report.

Subjects: A 42-year-old female patient and a 49-year-old male partner desiring a female child pursued in vitro fertilization (IVF) with next generation sequencing-based PGT-A for family balancing after the death of their daughter.

Microgel double-crosslinked hydrogel with excellent mechanical properties for flexible electronics.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2025

Dongguan Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Science for Advanced Materials and Large-Scale Scientific Facilities, School of Physical Sciences, Great Bay University, Dongguan, Guangdong 523000, PR China. Electronic address:

Hydrogels are limited in practical applications due to insufficient mechanical properties. While microgels (MGs) and active MGs enhance hydrogel toughness via sacrificial bonding and chemical crosslinking, respectively, achieving synergistic multiple physical-chemical crosslinking remains challenging. In this study, pH-responsive soft MGs (PEA-MAA-BDDA) were synthesized as physical micro-crosslinkers, while vinyl-functionalized MGs (GMGs) were used as active MGs serving as chemical micro-crosslinkers.
