Succinic acid (SA) is used as a commodity chemical and as a precursor in chemical industry to produce other derivatives such as 1,4-butaneidol, tetrahydrofuran, fumaric acid, and bio-polyesters. The production of bio-based SA from renewable feedstocks has always been in the limelight owing to the advantages of renewability, abundance and reducing climate change by CO capture. Considering this, the current review focuses on various 2G feedstocks such as lignocellulosic biomass, crude glycerol, and food waste for cost-effective SA production. It also highlights the importance of producing SA via separate enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation, simultaneous saccharification and fermentation, and consolidated bioprocessing. Furthermore, recent advances in genetic engineering, and downstream SA processing are thoroughly discussed. It also elaborates on the techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment (LCA) studies carried out to understand the economics and environmental effects of bio-based SA synthesis.

This study investigates the impact of a defined starter culture on the fermentation of cocoa beans and its influence on the production of volatile and non-volatile compounds related to sensory quality. A microbial consortium comprising Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pichia kudriavzevii, Levilactobacillus brevis, and Acetobacter okinawensis was selected based on their enzymatic activity and acid regulation properties. Fermentation trials showed that the starter culture enhanced the synthesis of key volatile compounds, particularly esters and higher alcohols, such as 2-phenylethanol and 2-phenylethyl acetate, which contribute floral and fruity aromas.

Purpose: Evidence on the association between visceral obesity and diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains sparse and debatable. We aimed to use three novel indicators, body roundness index (BRI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), and visceral adiposity index (VAI), to investigate the longitudinal relationship between visceral obesity and DR, and explore the potential metabolic mechanisms.
Methods: In this prospective study based on the UK Biobank (UKB), 14,738 individuals with diabetes free of DR at baseline were included.

Objective: The most common chronic complication of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is the presence of renal scarring and dimercapto succinic acid (DMSA) renal scan is utilized for its detection. In this study, we have aimed to assess whether shear wave speed (SWS) differs between normal and refluxing kidneys.
Materials And Method: Fifty pediatric VUR patients and 21 healthy children with available DMSA obtained within the previous year were included in the study.

The inefficiency of traditional pesticides leads to significant resource waste, severe environmental pollution, and potential threats to human health. Pesticide microcapsules present a promising strategy for developing environmentally friendly, safe, and sustained-release formulations. In this study, we produced degradable starch nanocrystals (SNCs) via acid hydrolysis and employed octenyl succinic anhydride-modified SNCs (O-SNCs) to fabricate pesticide microcapsules.

Salts and cocrystals are vital multicomponent entities for tuning pharmaceuticals' solid-state properties, yet their experimental screening is labor-intensive and often inefficient. We introduce a DualNet Ensemble algorithm, a multi-class classification model that integrates molecular graph embeddings with curated physicochemical descriptors to predict the formation of salts, cocrystals, or physical mixtures while estimating predictive uncertainty. The proposed DualNet was trained on 70 % of a curated dataset containing 22,298 experimentally validated entries.
