Article Abstract

Nanozyme-based dye degradation methods are promising for the remediation of water pollution. Though Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs) are known to act as nanozymes, their dye degradation capability has not been investigated. Low nanozyme activities, easy aggregation, difficulties in recovery and reuse are the major challenges in achieving this. For the first time, cellulose nanofibrils-supported PdNPs (PdNPs/PCNF) as a novel nanozyme with good peroxidase and oxidase-mimicking activities and easy recyclability is explored for dye degradation. An efficient and rapid method of PdNPs/PCNF preparation was demonstrated by adjusting the pH and microwave irradiation. Enzyme kinetic studies revealed good kinetic parameters and specific activities of 415 and 277 U/g for peroxidase and oxidase, respectively. PdNPs/PCNF offered 99.64% degradation of methylene blue within 12 min (0.468 min) with 0.4 M HO at pH 5.0. Mechanistic studies revealed the involvement of hydroxyl and superoxide radicals. Owing to the network-like structure of PCNF, films and foams were prepared, their dye degradation potentials were compared, and recyclability was tested. Successful degradation of mixed dye solutions and spiked real water samples was achieved and a continuous flow method was demonstrated using a foam-packed column.

Background: The hydrogen sulfide (HS) in spoilage of raw meat poses significant food safety risks to human health. Meanwhile, as a signaling molecule, HS is crucial for maintaining human physiological homeostasis. Thus, the establishment of an efficient method for HS detection is essential for safeguarding human health.

Background: Water contamination is a global challenge, primarily due to heavy metal ions like lead (Pb), iron (Fe), cadmium (Cd), andmercury (Hg) as well as dyes. These pollutants enter the ecosystem from industrial waste and runoff, accumulate in the environment and pose a high risk to humans, animals and plants. Various sensors, such as colorimetric sensors, and electrochemical sensors have been developed to detect these ions and dyes.

Background: Lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI) is a pathological condition characterized by aggravated oxidative-inflammatory tissue damage that occurs upon blood flow restoration after ischemia. LIRI can lead to severe complications, including primary graft dysfunction in lung transplants and multi-organ failure. However, current treatments remain limited.

Objective: Exosomes are secreted by most cell types and reflect the internal state of their cells of origin, playing crucial roles in the progression of various pathological conditions. Endometriosis is a chronic, estrogen-dependent inflammatory disease characterized by the ectopic presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, including in the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and peritoneal cavity. It primarily affects women of reproductive age and is often associated with infertility.

The green synthesis method is a significant approach that offers several advantages, including simplicity, rapidity, and cost-effectiveness in the synthesis of nanoparticles. Iron nanoparticles were synthesized in this work using waste banana peel extract as a capping and reducing agent. The produced nanoparticles were then subjected to a number of characterization procedures, such as Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), zeta potential analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) absorption spectroscopy, field scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
