Cardiac arrest in pregnancy is a rare event and poses a great risk to the mother and the fetus. A perimortem cesarean delivery (PMCD) is indicated within four minutes of cardiac arrest if the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) has not been achieved. Introduction: We aimed to determine if women with a history of preterm labor successfully arrested by tocolytic treatment who gave birth at term in their previous pregnancy are at an increased risk of preterm delivery in their next pregnancy.

Material And Methods: This case-control study included women with two consecutive singleton pregnancies who gave birth in the 15-year period of 2000-2014 at the tertiary hospital of Poissy-Saint-Germain. Cases (preterm labor [PTL] group) included all women admitted with intact membranes for preterm labor that was successfully arrested by tocolytic treatment between 24 + 0 and 34 + 6 weeks' gestation and who gave birth at term in the first of these two pregnancies.

Ferroptosis is a form of iron-regulated cell death that plays a critical role in various aspects of female reproductive system development. These processes include the normal estrous cycle, ovarian formation, follicular maturation, ovulation, and pregnancy, all of which are essential for maintaining reproductive health in female animals. However, excessive iron leads to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species within cells, disrupting intracellular redox balance, inducing mitophagy, membrane rupture, and lipid peroxidation, which can damage tissues and cells, ultimately resulting in ferroptosis.
