Application of bacteriophages (phages) to treat complex multidrug-resistant bacterial infection is gaining traction because of its efficacy and universal availability. However, as phages are specific to their host, a diverse collection of locally isolated phage from various geographical locations is required to formulate a wide host range phage cocktail. Here, we report morphological and genomic features of three newly isolated phages from river water of the urban region in Kathmandu, Nepal, targeting three different bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella enterica.) from the Enterobacteriaceae family. Morphological identification and genome analysis indicated that two phages (Escherichia phage vB_EcoM_TU01 and Klebsiella phage vB_KpnP_TU02) were strictly lytic and free from integrases, virulence factors, toxins and known antimicrobial resistance genes, whereas Salmonella phage vB_SalS_TU03 was possibly a temperate phage. The genomic features of these phages indicate that natural phages are capable of lysing pathogenic bacteria and may have potential in bacterial biocontrol.

Background: The chaperoning system, which is responsible for protein homeostasis, plays a significant role in cardiovascular diseases. Among molecular chaperones or heat shock proteins (HSPs), the HSP40 family, the main co-chaperone of HSP70, remains largely underexplored, especially in ischemic heart disease (IHD) risk.
Materials And Results: We genotyped 834 IHD patients and 1,328 healthy controls for three SNPs (rs2034598 and rs7189628 DNAJA2 and rs4926222 DNAJB1) using probe-based real-time PCR.

A novel bacterial strain, SM-13 was isolated from the rhizospheric soil of Epipremnum aureum (Jade Pothos) sampled in Suwon, Republic of Korea. The isolate was Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile, rod-shaped, cream-coloured, oxidase- and catalase-positive. Strain SM-13 grew at the range of 15-37 °C (optimum, 25 °C), at pH 6.

We report the genome sequences of two -infecting siphophages, B1VFA and V1VFA-S, isolated from Canadian agricultural soils. Both encode genes associated with plasmid maintenance, including , , and , and share similar genome architecture. These phages expand the diversity of rhizobiophages and may represent a distinct siphophage lineage.

Clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-associated transposons (CAST) consist of an integration between certain class 1 or class 2 CRISPR-Cas systems and Tn7-like transposons. Class 2 type V-K CAST systems are restricted to cyanobacteria. Here, we identified a unique subgroup of type V-K systems through phylogenetic analysis, classified as V-K_V2.
