Mammalian cumulus-oocyte complex communication: a dialog through long and short distance messaging.

Article Abstract

Communications are crucial to ovarian follicle development and to ovulation, and while both folliculogenesis and oogenesis are distinct processes, they share highly interdependent signaling pathways. Signals from distant organs such as the brain must be processed and compartments within the follicle have to be synchronized. The hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis relies on long-distance signalling analogous to wireless communication by which data is disseminated in the environment and cells equipped with the appropriate receptors receive and interpret the messages. In contrast, direct cell-to-cell transfer of molecules is a very targeted, short distance messaging system. Numerous signalling pathways have been identified and proven to be essential for the production of a developmentally competent egg. The development of the cumulus-oocyte complex relies largely on short distance communications or direct transfer type via extensions of corona radiata cells through the zona pellucida. The type of information transmitted through these transzonal projections is still largely uncharacterized. This review provides an overview of current understanding of the mechanisms by which the gamete receives and transmits information within the follicle. Moreover, it highlights the fact that in addition to the well-known systemic long-distance based communications from the HPG axis, these mechanisms acting more locally should also be considered as important targets for controlling/optimizing oocyte quality.

Background: Real-world data on the efficacy of mavacamten, indicated for the treatment of obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), are relatively scarce, particularly in patients with extreme left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) gradients and concerning its short-term effects.

Patients/methods: We investigated a cohort of twenty-five oHCM patients [15 men (60 %), mean age: 55 ± 11 years], with a resting or provoked LVOT gradient of >100 mmHg, receiving mavacamten treatment. This study applies Fisher's investment framework to investigate how patient capital affects firms' green total factor productivity (GTFP). Using panel data from Chinese listed companies over the period 2008-2023, we measure firm-level GTFP by employing a non-radial SBM directional distance function combined with the Malmquist-Luenberger productivity index. Our analysis, based on two-way fixed-effects models and instrumental variable regressions, reveals that an increase in patient capital significantly enhances firms' green total factor productivity.

Enhancing the accuracy of full-arch digital implant impressions via segmentation: An in vitro study.

Purpose: The aim of this in vitro study was to assess whether the accuracy (trueness and precision) of full-arch implant digital impressions can be improved by replacing standard digital impressions (StDIs) with segmented digital impressions (SgDIs), obtained by superimposing short-span digital impressions using a geometric pattern.

Materials And Methods: The study was conducted using a commercial edentulous maxillary model with four implants-positioned at the sites of the canines and second molars-and four commercial intraoral scan bodies (ISBs) screwed to them. Ten StDIs and SgDIs of the model were obtained, and their accuracy was evaluated and compared in terms of trueness and precision, based on measurements of three distances and three angles between the ISBs.

Translational coupling of neighboring genes in prokaryotes.

Prokaryotic genomes are gene-dense, so genes in the same orientation are often separated by short intergenic sequences or even overlap. Many mechanisms of regulation depend on open reading frames (ORFs) being spatially close to one another. Here, we describe one such mechanism, translational coupling, where translation of one gene promotes translation of a co-oriented neighboring gene.
