Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a critical biomolecule in cellular energy metabolism, with abnormal levels in the bloodstream linked to pathological conditions such as ischemia, cancer, and inflammatory disorders. Accurate and real-time detection of ATP is essential for early diagnosis and disease monitoring. However, conventional biochemical assays and other techniques suffer from limitations, including invasive sample collection, time-consuming procedures, and the inability to provide dynamic, monitoring.

Objective: To evaluate whether pretreatment strategies targeting the extracellular matrix (ECM), such as DNase I and low-frequency ultrasound, enhance the efficacy of successive antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) against Candida albicans biofilms and to assess the effects on biofilm components.
Methods: Forty-eight-hour C. albicans (ATCC 90028) biofilms were treated under four conditions: (I) aPDT [Photodithazine (PDZ) (25 mg/L) for 20 min + Light-Emitting Diode (LED) (660 nm, 18 J/cm²)], (II) DNase+aPDT [5 min with 20 U/mL DNase I before aPDT], (III) sonication+aPDT [7 W, 170-190 J before aPDT], (IV) Dn+So+aPDT.

There are several variations of laboratory procedures to preserve and demonstrate monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in tissue for the diagnosis of gout. MSU is water soluble and washed away in most staining solutions, so these procedures generally necessitate two slides; one which is silver stained and one which is left unstained to confirm the negative birefringence of MSU when viewed under polarized light. The modified Gomori's methenamine silver (GMS) for urates is an underutilized procedure which provides sensitive, high-contrast staining of MSU crystals.

Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) has emerged as a powerful technique to overcome the sensitivity limit of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) spectroscopy through polarizing agents (PAs) carrying unpaired electrons. Nitroxide biradical-based PAs have garnered great attention due to their superior DNP performance. The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance and the limited availability of antiviral therapeutics for pathogens such as human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) underscore the need for novel, plant-derived antimicrobial substances. In this study, we evaluated the antiproliferative, antibacterial, and antiviral activities of aqueous leaf extracts from two plants commonly found in North America, Osage orange () and spearmint (). Both extracts exhibited no significant cytotoxic or morphologic impact on HEp-2 human cancer cells up to 25 mg/mL.
