Epilepsy biomarkers from electroencephalogram recordings are routinely used to assess seizure risk and localization. Two widely adopted biomarkers include: (i) interictal spikes, and (ii) high frequency ripple oscillations. The combination of these two biomarkers, ripples co-occurring with spikes (spike ripples), has been proposed as an improved biomarker for the epileptogenic zone and epileptogenicity in humans and rodent models. Whether spike ripples translate to predict seizure risk in rodent seizure models is unknown. Further, recent evidence suggests ictal networks can include deep gray nuclei in humans. Whether pathologic spike ripples and seizures are also observed in the basal ganglia in rodent models has not been explored. We addressed these questions using local field potential recordings from mice with and without striatal seizures after carbachol or 6-hydroxydopamine infusions into the striatum. We found increased spike ripples in the interictal and ictal periods in mice with seizures compared to pre-infusion and post-infusion seizure-free recordings. These data provide evidence of electrographic seizures involving the striatum in mice and support the candidacy of spike ripples as a translational biomarker for seizure risk in mouse models.

Objective: We aim to explore the association between enlarged perivascular space (ePVS) density and stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) biomarkers of epileptogenicity.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive SEEG patients from an Australian site. We automatically segmented ePVSs from 3T pre-SEEG T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and calculated ePVS (1) hemispheric, (2) sub-lobar, and (3) contact-level density.

Objective: First, this study evaluates whether ripples co-occurring with epileptiform spikes (i.e., ripple-spikes) in scalp EEG provide a reliable biomarker for epileptogenic zone (EZ) localization compared to ripples or spikes alone.

This paper introduces a novel 13-level switched capacitor inverter. The proposed structure, comprising ten switches, five diodes, one input DC source, and five capacitors, can generate an alternating output voltage with a sixfold increase in the output load. The reduced number of switches lowers the cost of gate drivers, reducing the converter's volume and increasing its power density.

Wettability, the ability of a liquid to spread on or repel from a surface, holds particular significance for applications requiring extreme control of liquid interaction, including self-cleaning, anti-icing, dropwise condensation, anti-fogging, and enhanced fluid transport. This work investigates the synergistic combination of laser surface texturing and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) to achieve tunable, permanent, and instantly available super-wettability states on metal surfaces. Ultrashort laser pulses were employed to produce various surface textures, ranging from fine nanoscale ripples to rougher microtextures such as microgrooves, spikes, and holes, on stainless steel AISI 304, copper, and the titanium alloy Ti64.

The cross-regional interplay of slow oscillations, sleep spindles, and ripples during sleep is believed to support systems memory consolidation but is understudied in humans. Using a validated behavioral task and intracranial neural recordings from orbitofrontal cortex, thalamus, and hippocampus in 19 epilepsy patients, we examined the cross-regional interplay of sleep-oscillations and their role in memory consolidation. Orbitofrontal slow oscillations robustly modulate sleep rhythms both within and across regions.
