Article Abstract

Aim: To compare the effect of the Nintendo Wii-Fit and Xbox Kinect on motor performance and to assess differential effects in children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and typical development (TD).

Method: In an assessor-blinded randomized comparator-controlled design, 68 participants (34 DCD and 34 TD) aged 7-10 years, were randomly assigned to train on one of two devices (34 Wii-Fit; 34 Xbox Kinect).

Results: Repeated measure ANOVA revealed a significant main effect of time on balance and agility variables (MABC-2, Wii Yoga stance, PERF-FIT side-hop, PERF-FIT ladder-stepping; all  ≤ 0.02), but not on running variables (BOT2-sprint, 10 × 5 m sprint and PERF-FIT ladder running;  > 0.05). No significant interactions were observed, indicating similar changes on both devices. Overall, 35% of the TD children and 76% of the children with DCD improved on one or more of the outcomes beyond the smallest detectable difference. However, at the individual level, larger differences in improvement were found in the Kinect group compared to the Wii between TD and DCD groups.

Conclusion: Both Wii-Fit and Kinect devices can be used to train with similar results on motor performance. An important percentage (76%) of children with DCD improved on at least one motor task after training.

Background: The increasing prevalence of sports injuries among young female volleyball players, driven by biomechanical and hormonal factors, necessitates effective prevention strategies. Screening tools like the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) often show inconsistent predictive validity for injury risk in this population. This study investigates associations between FMS, SEBT, agility, and muscle strength with injury risk in young female volleyball players to refine prediction models and inform targeted interventions.

This study investigated the prospective associations between changes in 24-h movement behaviors and physical fitness (PF) components in preschool children; and examined how the reallocation of time between movement behaviours was associated with longitudinal changes in PF. This is a two-year longitudinal study of 200 Chinese children aged 3-4 years old. At baseline and follow-up, 24-h movement behaviors including moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), light physical activity (LPA), screen-based sedentary behavior (SSB), non-screen-based sedentary behavior (NSB), and sleep were assessed.

: Integrated neuromuscular training (INT) is a multidimensional training method that integrates strength, balance, core stability, flexibility, and motor skill development. The aim of this study was to systematically evaluate the effects of INT on various physical performance indicators in athletes to provide evidence supporting the application of INT in training practices. : A systematic search was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines across nine databases-including PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Ovid MEDLINE, WILEY, and Springer Nature Link-from inception to 26 March 2025 to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the effects of INT on athletic performance.

Unexpected ocular morbidity after middle meningeal artery embolization: Lessons learned from a case of anastomotic-related diplopia.

World J Clin Cases

October 2025

Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Zhongshan City People's Hospital, Zhongshan 528400, Guangdong Province, China.

Middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) has revolutionized chronic subdural hematoma management, yet procedural risks persist due to anatomical variability. We analyze a case report by Zhao describing transient diplopia caused by inadvertent embolization of the lacrimal artery a dynamic middle meningeal-ophthalmic anastomosis. This correspondence advances three critical innovations in MMAE safety.

Digital product success under the microscope: When artificial intelligence in projects helps - and when it hurts.

PLoS One

Department of Management and Project Management, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia.

As organizations navigate an increasingly dynamic digital landscape, the challenge of achieving consistent product success has intensified. This study investigates how key management factors-customer-driven product development, open innovation networks, organizational digital agility, and AI-integrated project management-influence digital product outcomes. Special attention is given to the dual role of artificial intelligence: as a potential enabler of innovation and a possible constraint when applied in rigid or misaligned ways.
