In the present study, carboxymethyl cellulose nanofibrils (CMCNFs) with different carboxyl content (0.99-2.01 mmol/g) were prepared via controlling the ratio of monochloroacetic acid (MCA) and sodium hydroxide to Eucalyptus bleached pulp (EBP). CMCFs-PEI aerogels were obtained using the crosslinking reaction of polyethyleneimine (PEI) and CMCNFs with the aid of glutaraldehyde (GA). The effects of pH, contact time, temperature, and initial Cu concentration on the Cu removal performance of CMCNFs-PEI aerogels was highlighted. Experimental data showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of CMCNF30-PEI for Cu was 380.03 ± 23 mg/g, and the adsorption results were consistent with Langmuir isotherm (R > 0.99). The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity was 616.48 mg/g. After being treated with 0.05 M EDTA solution, the aerogel retained an 85% removal performance after three adsorption-desorption cycles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results demonstrated that complexation was the main Cu adsorption mechanism. The excellent Cu adsorption capacity of CMCNFs-PEI aerogels provided another avenue for the utilization of cellulose nanofibrils in the wastewater treatment field.

This study quantitatively evaluated the adsorption performance of natural bentonite for removing three dye classes-cationic (Basic dye: BEZACRYL RED GRL), anionic (Reactive dye: AVITERA LIGHT RED SE), and non-ionic (Disperse dye: BEMACRON BLUE HP3R) from synthetic textile wastewater. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted under varying conditions of contact time (15-90 min), adsorbent dosage (20-60 g L⁻), pH (4 and 12), and temperature (25-100 °C), with dye concentrations quantified by UV-Vis spectroscopy. At a contact time of 30 min and room temperature (25 °C), maximum removal efficiencies reached 99.

Zeolite synthesis from fly ash offers recycling and environmental benefits for carbon dioxide capture, but varying fly ash composition from different sources has different compositions, leading to inconsistent adsorption results. To achieve high CO adsorption performance and stability in zeolite synthesis from fly ash systems, this study established an element-controlled simulated fly ash system with Ca/Fe gradient differences. Hydrothermal synthesis yielded zeolites with optimized oxide ratios for CO adsorption.

Recent interest in amendments derived from industrial by-products has highlighted their potential for both resource recycling and heavy metal remediation. Phosphate tailings (PT), primarily dolomite-based solid waste with low utilization rates, offer a promising yet underexplored solution. This study pioneers the thermal modification of PT into a novel amendment, thermally modified phosphate tailings (TPT), to assess its adsorption performance, underlying mechanisms, and effectiveness in immobilizing heavy metals in soils.

Herein, organic/inorganic multiple adsorption sites were constructed on halloysite to intensify the selective adsorption performance of the adsorbent for Al(III) in rare earth solutions. The adsorption heat behavior and thermodynamics of the composite for different ion systems were investigated using microcalorimetry. The results showed that chitosan formed a mesoporous membrane on the acid-treated calcined halloysite (HalH) substrate through a strong electron interaction between the nitrogen atom of the amino group and the oxygen atom of SiO structure on HalH.

Escalating concentrations of norfloxacin (NFX) in surface and wastewaters demand sustainable remediation strategies. In this study, dual-functional hydrochars were synthesized from argan nut shells (ArNS) via hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), with process conditions optimized by varying temperature (150-200 °C) and residence time (2-6 h). Among the materials, H1:5@150-4-prepared at 150 °C for 4 h with a biomass-to-water ratio of 1:5-exhibited the best performance, achieving a monolayer NFX adsorption capacity of 27.
