Article Abstract

Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is an aggressive, highly metastatic cancer that expresses high levels of the microRNA ( cluster. We employ an miR inhibitor system to study the function of the different miRs within the cluster based on seed sequence homology in the ATC SW579 cell line. While three of the four families were oncogenic, we uncovered a novel role for as a tumor suppressor and . Surprisingly, inhibition increased expression of the cluster and significantly increased the levels of the and mature miRs. inhibition increased expression of the cell cycle activator CCND2, associated with increased cell proliferation and tumor growth in transplanted SW579 cells in xenograft mice. regulates and expression in SW579 cells, and the inhibition of increased and expression, which increased transcripts. Thus, inhibition of activated the expression of the oncogenic miRs, and . While many cancers express high levels of , linking it with tumorigenesis, we demonstrate that inhibition does not inhibit thyroid tumor growth in SW579 and MDA-T32 ATC cells but increases expression of the other family members and genes to induce cancer progression.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and animal models exhibit an altered gut microbiome that is associated with pathological changes in the brain. Intestinal miRNA enters bacteria and regulates bacterial metabolism and proliferation. This study aimed to investigate whether the manipulation of miRNA could alter the gut microbiome and AD pathologies.

Background: Volatile anesthetics are gaining recognition for their benefits in long-term sedation of mechanically ventilated patients with bacterial pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. In addition to their sedative role, they also exhibit anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, though the mechanisms behind these effects remain only partially understood. In vitro studies examining the prolonged impact of volatile anesthetics on bacterial growth, inflammatory cytokine response, and surfactant proteins - key to maintaining lung homeostasis - are still lacking.

The stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a difficulty in urology and current sub-urethral sling treatments are associated with inflamation and recurrence. In this study, we developed a novel tissue-engineered sling with myogenic induced adiposederived stem cells (MI-ADSCs) sheets induced by 5-Aza and combined with electrospun scaffolds of silk fibroin and poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (SF/PLGA) for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. MI-ADSCs increased α-SMA, MyoD and Desmin the mRNA and protein expression.

The kin selection hypothesis (KSH) proposes that same-sex attracted individuals offset their lowered direct reproduction via kin-directed altruism that increases close genetic relatives' reproduction, thereby enhancing inclusive fitness. Retrospective research found that childhood concerns for kin's well-being are elevated among birth-assigned males who are androphilic (i.e.

Sodium-glucose Cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors are oral antidiabetic drugs that were developed for the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus and are now also approved for treating chronic heart failure and chronic kidney disease. By inhibiting SGLT‑2 in the proximal renal tubule, urinary excretion of glucose is increased. Large randomized trials have demonstrated improved glycemic control, reduced cardiovascular events and lower mortality but also an increased risk of urogenital infections and dehydration.
