Cytoplasmic mislocalisation and nuclear depletion of TDP-43 are pathological hallmarks of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), including mutations in the gene that characterise the most common genetic form of ALS (C9ALS). Studies in human cells and animal models have associated cytoplasmic mislocalisation of TDP-43 with abnormalities in nuclear transport receptors, referred to as karyopherins, that mediate the nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of TDP-43. Yet the relationship between karyopherin abnormalities and TDP-43 pathology are unclear.

Background: We report a case of contrast-induced encephalopathy (CIE) following coil embolization of a ruptured anterior communicating artery (AComA) aneurysm with bilateral A1 segment development. The aneurysm was visualized by forcefully injecting contrast medium from a distal access catheter (DAC) positioned distally in the internal carotid artery (ICA).
Case Description: A 50-year-old female was diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Objective: Contrast-induced encephalopathy (CIE) is a rare complication of endovascular procedures with an incompletely understood pathophysiology. Its intraoperative detection under general anesthesia can be challenging. We present a case of CIE occurring during aneurysm embolization, demonstrating varying severity across procedures and suggesting that somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) may help in early recognition.
