A Scoping Review of Respiratory Dysfunction in Inclusion Body Myositis.

Int J Rheum Dis

September 2025

Department of Communication Science and Disorders, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Objectives: Inclusion body myositis (IBM) can result in deadly respiratory consequences. Yet, the mechanism driving this issue remains equivocal. We mapped the literature to identify physiological respiratory characteristics in IBM and the types of respiratory assessments used.

Purpose: The association between social integration and mortality in older adults from historically excluded groups may not align with the patterns observed in predominately white samples. We modeled latent groups of social integration and their association with 10-year all-cause mortality in a cohort of older adults from historically excluded racial/ethnic groups.

Methods: In a sub-sample of a national cohort study of older adults, we used latent class analysis to model social integration using ten item indicators spanning couple status, network characteristics, and neighborhood and community connections.

Importance: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) may be an early indicator of Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD), yet its association with plasma biomarkers remains unclear among middle-aged and older adults (aged 50-86 years).

Objective: To examine associations between plasma biomarkers of amyloid, tau, neuroaxonal damage, and glial activation with SCD in a heterogeneous cohort of Hispanic and/or Latino adults.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional study used survey-weighted data from the Study of Latinos-Investigation of Neurocognitive Aging, an ancillary study of the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos.

A common eligibility criterion in respiratory clinical trials is a per cent-predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 second (ppFEV) between 40% and 90%, using the ethnicity-dependent Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI)-2012 spirometry reference equations. International societies now endorse the newer 'race-neutral' GLI-Global equations. We quantify the impact on trial eligibility of switching from GLI-2012 to GLI-Global for the UK Cystic Fibrosis Registry (n=8182).

Background: Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) is the dominant histological subtype of lung cancer, accounting for 30% of all cases. Most patients develop distant metastases by the time they are diagnosed with the disease, owing to a delay in the appearance of symptoms. Therefore, accurate prognostic prediction is essential for personalized treatment.
