Two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) is an advanced echocardiographic technique based on deformation imaging that allows comprehensive evaluation of the myocardial function. Clinical application of 2D-STE holds great potential for its ability to provide valuable information on both global and regional myocardial function and to quantify cardiac rotation and synchronicity, which are not readily possible with the conventional echocardiography. It has gained growing importance over the past decade, especially in human medicine, and its application includes assessment of myocardial function, detection of subclinical myocardial dysfunction and serving as a prognostic indicator. This review illustrates the fundamental concepts of deformation analysis and gives an overview of the current understanding and its clinical application of this technique in veterinary medicine, with a focus on early detection of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in dogs.

Objectives: To explore the relationships between cardiac parameters and body composition indices, identifying predictors of subclinical cardiac systolic dysfunction.
Methods: Using anthropometric and serological parameters, echocardiography, and body composition analysis, this study evaluated metabolic profiles, cardiac remodeling patterns, and body composition characteristics in young adult obese patients, while quantifying the correlations between cardiac parameters and body composition indices. Subclinical left ventricular systolic dysfunction was defined as global longitudinal strain (GLS) < 18%.

Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) worsens ischemic damage, with ferroptosis as a key mediator of this iron-dependent cell death. Lactylation, a novel epigenetic modification, remains poorly understood in MIRI-associated ferroptosis. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanistic link between lactylation and ferroptosis in MIRI.

Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) is a rare congenital anomaly. Its clinical course is typically severe in infancy, leading to left ventricular ischemia, cardiogenic shock, and high mortality without surgical intervention. We describe a rare case of a 3-year-old girl diagnosed with ALCAPA, showing extensive right-to-left collaterals, preserved left ventricular function, and minimal myocardial injury.

Normal tension glaucoma (NTG) is a predominant subset of glaucoma in Asia and is characterized by glaucomatous optic neuropathy in the absence of elevated intraocular pressure. Alterations in retinal blood vessels are reported to be important mechanisms of glaucomatous optic nerve damage. Retinal peripapillary vascular density is assessed in patients with early stage NTG and OPTN (E50K) mutant mice and confirmed a similar reduction in retinal peripapillary vascular density in patients with NTG and model mice.

This study investigates the reparative effect of electroacupuncture on myocardial fibrosis (MF) in mice and explores its impact on intestinal flora and metabolism profile. This examines an investigation into the biological mechanisms underlying electroacupuncture's efficacy in treating MF in mice. Twenty-four male Kunming mice (27-34 g) were randomized into three groups: normal control (NC, = 8), MF model (MF, = 8), and electroacupuncture treatment (EA, = 8).
