Article Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore differences in the physical fitness and anthropometric profiles between birth year quartiles of players attending the Australian Football League (AFL) National Draft Combine. Date of birth, anthropometric, 20 m sprint, vertical and running vertical jump, AFL planned agility, and 20 m Multi-Stage Fitness Test (MSFT) data were obtained for players selected to attend the Combine between 1999 and 2019 (n = 1549; M = 18.1; SD = 0.3). The underlying density distributions of the data were visually explored using violin plots overlaid with box and whisker plots. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was then used to model the main effect of birth quartile (four levels) on the physical and anthropometric scores. Results showed that physical and anthropometric test scores did not significantly differ according to birth quartile (V = 0.008, F = 0.880, = 0.631). We conclude that the physical and anthropometric profiles of high-level junior Australian Football players were similar according to birth year quartile across the modeled period. Therefore, how players utilize their physical and anthropometric attributes during game-play via contextualized, representative assessments, such as small-sided games, should be considered when examining potential causes of a RAE.

Objectives: To explore the relationships between cardiac parameters and body composition indices, identifying predictors of subclinical cardiac systolic dysfunction.

Methods: Using anthropometric and serological parameters, echocardiography, and body composition analysis, this study evaluated metabolic profiles, cardiac remodeling patterns, and body composition characteristics in young adult obese patients, while quantifying the correlations between cardiac parameters and body composition indices. Subclinical left ventricular systolic dysfunction was defined as global longitudinal strain (GLS) < 18%.

Objective: This study investigates the biomechanical effects of long-term Tai Chi practice on the knee meniscus through biomechanical experimentation and finite element simulation, focusing on practitioners performing Knee Brushing and Twisting Step. The findings aim to establish scientific guidelines for optimizing exercise protocols in middle-aged and elderly populations.

Methods: Twenty male middle-aged and elderly practitioners were recruited, divided into a Beginner Group (BG: n = 10), and an Experienced Group (EG: n = 10).

Background: Physical activity during pregnancy is thought to influence birth outcomes, but its association with it is not fully understood. We aimed to examine the association of sedentary behavior during pregnancy with preterm birth and infant adiposity measured at birth, 14 weeks, and one year of age.

Methods: In this cohort study, physical activity during pregnancy was assessed using the physical activity questionnaire.

Clinical, Immunological, and Vesicular Markers in Sarcopenia and Presarcopenia.

Front Biosci (Landmark Ed)

August 2025

Division of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Siberian State Medical University, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, 634050 Tomsk, Russia.

Background: Sarcopenia is a complex, multifactorial condition characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass, strength, and function. Despite growing awareness, the early diagnosis and pathophysiological characterization of this condition remain challenging due to the lack of integrative biomarkers.

Objective: This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive multilevel profiling of clinical parameters, immune cell phenotypes, extracellular vesicle (EV) signatures, and biochemical markers to elucidate biological gradients associated with different stages of sarcopenia.

The present study explored associations between the five personality traits (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness) and dietary patterns of apparently healthy individuals. Demographic, anthropometric, dietary, and personality data were obtained from 480 adults, up to 45 years of age, through self-completed questionnaires. Dietary habits were assessed a validated for the population Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), whereas personality was evaluated with the validated Greek version of the 50-item International Personality Item Pool (IPIP).
