Measuring bone density (BD) is a common method of determining bone quality; however, the relationship between condylar BD and the occurrence of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders has not been investigated. To address this knowledge gap, we aimed to investigate condylar BD in terms of TMJ disk displacement (TMJ DD) using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We classified TMJ MRI results according to the position of the disk: normal disk position (Normal), anterior disk displacement with reduction (ADDR), and anterior disk displacement without reduction (ADDNR). After retrospectively evaluating 86 female condyles, we determined the total, cortical, and trabecular BD in the upper-joint portion of the condyle and the whole condyle using CT data. To standardize condylar BD, we calculated the BD ratios by dividing the condylar BD by the cervical axis BD. The Kruskal-Wallis test analyzed the differences in BD measurements in the TMJ DD patient groups and showed significant between-group differences in condylar BD. The total and trabecular BD was significantly higher in ADDNR condyles than in Normal or ADDR condyles (Normal = ADDR < ADDNR). However, there was no significant difference in the cortical BD among the three TMJ DD groups. The BD ratios showed a similar tendency with condylar BD. These results suggest that increased condylar BD - specifically total and trabecular BD - may be significantly associated with ADDNR condyles. Our findings will help clinicians determine the course of treatment for patients with disk-related TMJ disorders.

Expandable cage is designed to facilitate cage insertion from small posterior inlet and minimize neural structure over-traction, at the same time, to expand the disk space as large as possible while prevent posterior endplate breakage during cage insertion in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion surgery. The purpose of this study is to compare radiologic and clinical outcomes between expandable and static cage, and complications of the 2 groups. Between January 2021 and January 2023, patients with lumbar spine degeneration or herniation of intervertebral disk accepting transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion surgery were included in the study.

The protein caveolin-1 (CAV1) is essential in the generation of caveolae, cup-like invaginations in the plasma membrane, but the mechanism of its action remains unclear. A recent cryo-EM structure showed an 11-mer of CAV1 (the 8S complex) forming a disk with a flat membrane-facing surface, raising the question of how a flat complex can generate membrane curvature. We previously conducted implicit-solvent molecular dynamics simulations, which showed the 8S complex adopting a conical shape with its outer ridge deep inside the implicit membrane.

Aim: The purpose of the study was to comparatively evaluate temporomandibular joint function and treatment response using joint vibration analysis (JVA) in patients exhibiting disc displacement with reduction (DDR), treated with three variable thickness of stabilization splints. JVA analyzed these vibrations to detect internal joint abnormalities, and their patterns were further categorized using the Piper classification was highly accurate and hence used over magnetic resonance imaging.

Magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine is a key technique for clarifying the cause of disease. The greatest challenges today are the repetitive and time-consuming process of interpreting these complex MR images and the problem of unequal diagnostic results from physicians with different levels of experience. To address these issues, in this study, an improved YOLOv8 model (GE-YOLOv8) that combines a gradient search module and efficient channel attention was developed.
