Derivatives of 2-(2-indolyl)-cyclopenta[b]pyrrole-3,4-diones and pyrindino[1,2-a]indoles were synthesized by a new reaction of contraction of the -quinone ring, and their structures were investigated by X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The mechanisms of the reactions were suggested based on density functional theory calculations of the critical parts of the potential energy surfaces.

Hypoxia is a common challenge in fetal development. Short-term acute episodes occur during labour owing to uterine contractions or umbilical cord compression. In response, the fetus prioritizes oxygen and nutrient delivery to the brain, heart and adrenal glands at the expense of other organs, a mechanism known as the fetal brain-sparing response.

Juglans neotropica (Peruvian walnut) has been widely used by Andean populations in the form of infusions and decoctions for its antioxidant, hypoglycemic, hepatoprotective, antifungal, and antibacterial properties. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Juglans neotropica extract (JNE) on the spasmolytic activity in rat ileum. Our experiments demonstrated that JNE displayed spasmolytic activity at high concentrations, but did not exhibit antispasmodic effects.

Background: Pre-extensively drug-resistant (pre-XDR) tuberculosis (ie, multidrug-resistant or rifampicin-resistant with additional resistance to any fluoroquinolone) is difficult to treat. endTB-Q aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bedaquiline, delamanid, linezolid, and clofazimine (BDLC) compared with the standard of care for patients with pre-XDR tuberculosis.
Methods: This open-label, multicentre, stratified, non-inferiority, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial was conducted in ten hospitals in India, Kazakhstan, Lesotho, Pakistan, Peru, and Viet Nam.

Objective: Muscle loss with cancer causes weakness, worsens quality of life, and predicts reduced overall survival rates. Recently, muscle weakness was identified during early-stage cancer before atrophy develops. This discovery indicates that mechanisms independent of muscle loss must contribute to progressive weakness.

Vitamin K2 (VK2) shows promise as a nutritional intervention for obesity-related disorders, but its mechanisms of action in obesity and associated phenotypes are not yet fully understood. This study aims to elucidate the rescue effects of VK2 on multiple tissues during obesity. Twenty-eight 8-week-old male C57BL6/N mice are divided into four groups and fed a high-fat diet or normal diet for 16 weeks, receiving either menaquinone-7 (MK-7) or soybean oil solvent gavage.
