Rice bran is an industrial byproduct that exerts several bioactivities despite its limited bioavailability. In this study, rice bran fermented with MF423 (FLRB) had enhanced antidiabetic effects both and . FLRB could increase glucose consumption and decrease lipid accumulation in insulin resistant HepG2 cells. Eight weeks of FLRB treatment significantly reduced the levels of blood glucose and lipids and elevated antioxidant activity in type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM) mice. H&E staining revealed alleviation of overt lesions in the livers of FLRB-treated mice. Moreover, high-throughput sequencing showed notable variation in the composition of gut microbiota in FLRB-treated mice, especially for short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)-producing bacteria such as and . In conclusion, our results suggested that rice bran fermentation products can modulate the intestinal microbiota and improve T2DM-related biochemical abnormalities, so they can be applied as potential probiotics or dietary supplements.

Radiation dermatitis is a common side effect of radiotherapy, affecting up to 95% of cancer patients receiving radiation therapy and often leading to skin damage, inflammation, and ulceration. The pathogenesis of radiation dermatitis involves complex mechanisms, such as the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and sustained inflammatory responses. Current treatments, including topical steroids, moisturisers, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), often provide limited efficacy, primarily addressing symptoms rather than the underlying pathophysiological processes.

The interactions between ethylcellulose (EC) and waxes in multicomponent oleogel systems are underexplored. This study investigated the structural, functional, and physiochemical properties of rice bran oil (RBO) oleogels structured with various ratios of EC and a binary wax blend (9:1 beeswax (BW): carnauba wax (CRW)), varied in 0.5 % w/w increments at a constant total gelator concentration of 4 % w/w.

Sweet potato foot rot disease caused by Diaporthe destruens (formerly Plenodomus destruens) severely affects the yield and quality of sweet potatoes. To gain basic knowledge on regulating the pathogen using indigenous soil bacteria, the following organic materials were applied to potted soils collected from a sweet potato field contaminated with D. destruens: Kuroihitomi (compost made from shochu waste and chicken manure), Soil-fine (material made by adsorbing shochu waste on rice bran), and rice bran.

Green solvents offer promising alternatives to n-hexane for sustainable vegetable oil extraction. This study evaluated ethanol, isopropanol, acetone, and ethyl acetate for extracting oils from avocado pulp (AP), rice bran (RB), and soybean flakes (SF), focusing on oil quality and defatted meal properties. lnγ obtained by COSMO-SAC showed tendencies for effective interactions with solutes.
