Article Abstract

We developed a simple approach to synthesizing ionic vinylene-linked two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) through a quaternization-promoted Knoevenagel condensation at three aromatic methyl carbon atoms of N-ethyl-2,4,6-trimethylpyridinium halide with multitopic aromatic aldehyde derivatives. The resultant COFs exhibited a honeycomb-like structure with high crystallinity and surface areas as large as 1343 m  g . The regular shape-persistent nanochannels and the positively charged polymeric frameworks allowed the COFs to be uniformly composited with linear polyethylene oxide and lithium salt, displaying ionic conductivity as high as 2.72×10  S cm .

Ionic vinylene-linked covalent organic frameworks (ivCOFs) with ionic characteristics and highly conjugated structures have been promising functional materials. However, both the number of reported ionic vinylene-linked COFs and its synthetic methodologies still be limited. Herein, two new kinds of ionic vinylene-linked covalent organic frameworks (named as COF-NUC-1 and COF-NUC-2) are synthesized by novel geomimetic interfacial hydrothermal synthesis for the first time.

Here, we build a tunable multipolar conjugated polymer framework platform via pore wall chemistry to probe the role of electronic structure engineering in improving the Li conduction by theoretical studies. Guided by theoretical prediction, we develop a new cyano-vinylene-linked multipolar polymer framework namely CNF-COF, which can act as efficient ion sieves to modify solid polymer electrolytes to simultaneously tune Li migration and stable Li anodes for long-lifespan all-solid-state (ASS) Li metal batteries at high rate. The dual-decoration of cyano and fluorine groups in CNF-COF favorably regulates electronic structure via multipolar donor-acceptor electronic effects to afford proper energy band structure and abundant electron-rich sites for enhanced oxidative stability, facilitated ion-pair dissociation and suppressed anion movements.

Ionic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) featuring both crystallinity and ionic characteristics have attracted tremendous attention in recent years. Compared with single anion- or cation-containing ionic COFs, zwitterionic COFs possess unique functionalities beyond single ionic COFs such as tunable charge density and superhydrophilic and highly ion-conductive characteristics, endowing them with huge potential in various applications. However, it remains a considerable challenge to directly synthesize robust, highly crystalline zwitterionic COFs from the original building blocks.

Rapid, efficient, and selective removal of toxicants such as aristolochic acid I (AAI) from complex natural product systems is of great significance for the safe use of herbal medicines or medicine-food plants. Addressing this challenge, we develop a high-performance separation approach based on ionic covalent organic frameworks (iCOFs) to separate and remove AAI. Two vinylene-linked iCOFs (NKCOF-46-Br and NKCOF-55-Br) with high crystallinity are fabricated in a green and scalable fashion via a melt polymerization synthesis method.

The development of efficient metal-free photocatalysts for the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) for sulfur mustard (HD) decontamination can play a vital role against the stockpiling of chemical warfare agents (CWAs). Herein, one novel concept is conceived by smartly choosing a specific ionic monomer and a donor tritopic aldehyde, which can trigger linker-independent regioselective protonation/deprotonation in the polymeric backbone. In this context, the newly developed vinylene-linked ionic polymers (TPA/TPD-Ionic) are further explored for visible-light-assisted detoxification of HD simulants.
