Article Abstract

, commonly known as water spinach, is an edible annual vegetable in the genus ,. In this study, the complete plastome of was determined using the Illumina sequencing platform. The plastome size was 162,663 bp. It consists of four regions, including a large single-copy region (88,166 bp), a small single-copy region (12,069 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (31,214 bp). This plastome encodes 114 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and 4 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). The GC content was 39.1%. Phylogenomic analysis based on 19 complete plastomes revealed that was closely related to .

This study presents the first comprehensive plastome analysis of Curculigo, filling a genomic gap in Hypoxidaceae, reveals its evolutionary relationships, and identifies the shortest known ndhA intron among seed plants. Comparative genomics is an effective tool for exploring plastome evolution and gene content variation across species. In the genus Curculigo (Hypoxidaceae), plastome research has been restricted to C.

Plastome evolution in species-rich angiosperm lineages remains poorly understood despite recent advances in phylogenomics, particularly regarding the mechanistic drivers of codon usage bias (CUB) and their relationship to adaptive evolution. The genus Bidens (Asteraceae), comprising approximately 280 species, represents a morphologically diverse lineage with significant medicinal and economic value. Here, we assembled the complete plastid genome (plastome) of Bidens alba and conducted comprehensive comparative analyses across 31 Bidens species, integrating structural characterization, simple sequence repeat (SSR) distribution, codon usage bias assessment, and selection pressure analysis through Ka/Ks ratios and phylogenomic reconstruction.

is herein described as a new deciduous species endemic to riparian habitats in Jiuzhaigou, northern Sichuan, China. Phylogenetic analyses based on complete plastome sequences and 322 nuclear loci consistently recover as a distinct and divergent lineage, genetically separated from all morphologically similar species and most closely related to . Species delimitation analyses employing both topology-based (SODA) and substitution-based (bPTP, mPTP) frameworks further corroborate its taxonomic distinctiveness.

The genus is taxonomically complex and often considered an underutilized group despite its economic and medicinal significance. L., the most variable species within the genus, is widely utilized as a culinary spice and medicinal herb, exhibiting considerable morphological diversity across its six recognized subspecies.
