Background: The long-term clinical efficacy of intraportal islet transplantation is hampered by islet loss due to inflammation, oxidative stress, and insufficient vascularization. This study explores the venous sac as an alternative implantation site for islet transplantation in large animal models.
Methods: An immunosuppressed, diabetic cynomolgus monkey received allogeneic islet implants in its mesenteric venous sac, with metabolic assessments over 112 days.

Hyrtl's anastomosis, a transverse inter-arterial connection between the two umbilical arteries near their placental insertion, plays a vital role in maintaining hemodynamic stability in fetal circulation. Despite being a consistent finding in most term placentas, its functional role and clinical significance are underappreciated in perinatal medicine. This review explores the anatomy, physiological function, diagnostic assessment, and clinical implications of Hyrtl's anastomosis, with emphasis on its protective role in ensuring balanced placental perfusion and mitigating hemodynamic stress in compromised pregnancies.

Background: Tetrandrine (TET) demonstrates therapeutic potential for hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH); however, its precise pharmacological mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of TET on pulmonary vascular remodeling (PVR) in HPH and elucidate the molecular pathways through which TET ameliorates HPH.
Methods: We established a rat model of HPH and evaluated the therapeutic effects of TET by measuring hemodynamic parameters, assessing right ventricular hypertrophy, and analyzing pathological changes in lung tissue.

Retinal neovascularization is one of the most prevalent fundus neovascular diseases, affecting vision and potentially leading to severe complications, such as retinal detachment or irreversible blindness. Current treatments primarily involve intravitreal injections (IVT) of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents. However, such treatment often requires repeated injections, develop incomplete responses, and are associated with adverse effects.

Background: Local control strategies in pediatric oncology are guided by disease-specific considerations. Effective communication of the goals of surgical procedure and associated intraoperative events plays a crucial role in shaping subsequent treatment decisions. However, accurately and comprehensively documenting these findings remains challenging, with considerable variability across different tumor types.
