Wearable electronic devices that can monitor physiological signals of the human body to provide biomedical information have been drawing extensive interests for sustainable personal health management. Here, we report a human pilot trial of a soft, smart contact lens and a skin-attachable therapeutic device for wireless monitoring and therapy of chronic ocular surface inflammation (OSI). As a diagnostic device, this smart contact lens enables real-time measurement of the concentration of matrix metalloproteinase-9, a biomarker for OSI, in tears using a graphene field-effect transistor. As a therapeutic device, we also fabricated a stretchable and transparent heat patch attachable on the human eyelid conformably. Both diagnostic and therapeutic devices can be incorporated using a smartphone for their wireless communications, thereby achieving instantaneous diagnosis of OSI and automated hyperthermia treatments. Furthermore, in vivo tests using live animals and human subjects confirm their good biocompatibility and reliability as a noninvasive, mobile health care solution.

Background: Daminozide is a commonly utilized plant growth regulator. Both daminozide and its hydrolysis product, 1,1-dimethyl hydrazine ((CH)NNH), exhibit carcinogenic and teratogenic toxicity. Accurate detection of daminozide in food is of great significance to human health.

In this study, aloe emodin and β-d-glucose pentaacetate were added into potato starch/polyvinyl alcohol for the construction of colorimetric/fluorescent dual-pass intelligent response labels. Inspired by the lotus leaf structure, retained the advantages of the label itself and solved the hydrophilic problem of the label, and further developed a multi-functional dual-channel smart label with hydrophobicity and self-adhesion. The water contact angle of the prepared T-AEB label was 120.

Redox-active colloids (RACs) represent a novel class of energy carriers that exchange electrical energy upon contact. Understanding contact-mediated electron transfer dynamics in RACs offers insights into physical contact events in colloidal suspensions and enables quantification of electrical energy transport in nonconjugated polymers. Redox-based electron transport was directly observed in monolayers of micron-sized RACs containing ethyl-viologen side groups via fluorescence microscopy through an unexpected nonlinear electrofluorochromism that is quantitatively coupled to the redox state of the colloid.

Surface-mediated pathogen transmission remains a critical vector for infectious disease, especially amidst biofilm-associated infections and rising antimicrobial resistance. This review critically examines the emergence of dual-functional surface coatings that integrate antimicrobial and antibiofouling strategies to provide continuous protection against microbial contamination. This paper investigates how recent innovations leverage physicochemical repulsion, contact-active biocides, controlled-release systems, and stimuli-responsive architectures to tackle both microbial adhesion and survival.

Wood is a widely used carbon-storing material, but its applications are constrained by vulnerabilities to water, oil and fire. Existing coatings have limited functionalities, failing to meet the intelligent requirements of modern wood products and constructions. Inspired by bionics, a robust superamphiphobic fire sensing EP/F-POS@FeO coating was designed on wood substrate, fabricated from functional ferroferric oxide (FeO) particles, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS, hydrolyzed into polysiloxane), 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (PFDTMS), and epoxy resin (EP) adhesive.
