Vocal signals are the primary means of communication for most nonhuman primates. Quantitatively describing the vocal repertoire of specific species at specific age stages is a crucial step in studying their vocal communication, and it also provides a foundation for understanding the development and use of primate vocal signals. This study is the first attempt to establish a vocal repertoire for wild infant Tibetan macaques based on quantitative methods.

September 2025

School of Communication and Information (SC&I), Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, United States of America. Electronic address:

Attempts to shape children's media use by affecting other caregivers' mediation practices, defined here as "secondary mediation," are a significant yet relatively undiscussed family dynamic. By investigating 267 dyads of the two primary caregivers in intergenerational families-mothers and grandmothers-the study presented in this article sheds light on the prevalence of secondary mediation, the factors predicting it, and its consequences. Our findings point to a considerable gap between the mothers and the grandmothers in reporting the existence of secondary mediation.

Polytrauma patients are defined by the Berlin Consensus as those with severe injuries across multiple regions and require complex, adaptable treatment approaches to address both immediate and long-term needs of the patient, while considering the resource availability. This review evaluates early total care (ETC), which attempts early definitive fixation, against damage control orthopedics (DCO), which focuses on temporary stabilization to reduce physiological strain from surgery. While ETC promotes early mobilization, DCO reduces risks and subsequent complications associated with the "second hit" phenomenon in critically ill patients.
