Rotavirus (RV) is a major cause of gastroenteritis in both humans and many mammals, including livestock. However, information regarding RV in sheep remains limited, particularly in China. This study reports the first isolation and characterization of the G8-P[1]-I2-R2-C2-M2-A11-N2-T6-E2-H3 type sheep RV strain (GS13) in China.

Herein, we report a visible light-mediated, metal- and photocatalyst-free, green and sustainable synthesis of biologically relevant functionalized benzopyrans by a one-pot, pseudo-multicomponent reaction at room temperature. The notable features of the present protocol include a green and renewable energy source, high yields, easy isolation of the products without performing column chromatography, metal- and photocatalyst-free conditions, room-temperature synthesis, broad substrate scope, environmental friendliness and gram-scale synthesis of the products. In the present study, the benzopyrans are also subjected to molecular docking, which revealed that some benzopyrans are promising potential inhibitors of key nsPs in both Chikungunya and Zika viruses.

Non-structural protein 3 (nsp3), the largest multifunctional membrane-associated protein encoded by coronaviruses, contains a papain-like protease (PLpro) domain that cleaves viral polypeptides at the nsp1/nsp2, nsp2/nsp3 and nsp3/nsp4 junctions, as well as host substrates such as polyubiquitin chains and ISG15. While host substrate recognition by PLpro is well characterized, the processes by which PLpro identifies and interacts with membrane-associated viral substrates remains poorly defined. In this study, we developed full-length nsp3-containg reporter constructs to investigate PLpro-mediated cleavage in a membrane context.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes abortions in sows and abnormal respiratory symptoms in piglets. Recently, reports of PRRSV-1 infection in China are growing, however, data on the pathogenicity of PRRSV-1 subtype 1 are limited. In this study, a PRRSV strain, namely GXFS20220129, was isolated from the lung tissues of piglets exhibiting respiratory distress and diarrhea on a pig farm in southern China.

While certain viral families are common sources of outbreaks, predicting the specific virus within a family that will cause the next outbreak or pandemic is not possible, creating an urgent need for broad spectrum antiviral drugs that are effective against an array of related viral pathogens. However, broad spectrum drug development is hindered by the lack of detailed knowledge of compound binding sites that are structurally and functionally conserved between viral family members and are essential for virus replication.
