Article Abstract

Scientific success is mainly supported by mentoring, which often occurs through face-to-face interactions. Changes to the research environment incurred by the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have necessitated mentorship adaptations. Here, we describe how mentors can broaden their mentorship to support trainee growth and provide reassurance about trainee development amid uncertain circumstances.

Purpose: To understand how institutions can support faculty during crises in biomedical research, this study examined early career researchers (ECRs) experiences with institutional supports during the COVID-19 pandemic and their perspectives on how institutions can support professional recovery.

Subjects And Methods: This national, cross-sectional study evaluated professional and personal-related institutional supports offered to ECRs during the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of these supports, and additional supports needed for professional recovery. Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, United States of America.

Research on graduate education often focuses on the expected challenges of graduate programs, such as proposal defenses, comprehensive exams, and mentoring relationships. However, less is known about how unexpected (chance) events may shape graduate student program experiences, including their impacts on career intentions. Prior research suggests that unexpected events introduce uncertainty and opportunities, however, the emotional and cognitive processes underlying these perceptions are unknown.

Background: Kidney failure with replacement therapy (KFRT) such as dialysis or transplantation represents a severe stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and poses a major global health burden. Although many CKD cases are diagnosed in the earlier stages, the greatest risk occurs when CKD progresses to KFRT. Despite its considerable financial and imposing impact on public health, there is a notable gap in international policies addressing CKD and KFRT.

Background: Since its inception in 1974, the Essential Programme on Immunization (EPI) has achieved remarkable success, averting the deaths of an estimated 154 million children worldwide through routine childhood vaccination. However, more recent decades have seen persistent coverage inequities and stagnating progress, which have been further amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, WHO set ambitious goals for improving vaccine coverage globally through the Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030).
