Intussusception is an infrequent cause of mechanical bowel obstruction in adults and surgical resection is warranted in most cases. Small bowel is a common site of recurrence from cutaneous melanoma but early diagnosis is still a challenge. Acute peritonitis, haemorrhage and obstruction are known clinical presentations. Wide surgical excision with free margins and accompanied mesentery is the treatment of choice and may improve the prognosis. We present a case of small bowel obstruction due to three intussusceptions by metastatic malignant melanoma submitted to surgery.

Subcommittee on Diagnostic Errors in Pediatric Outpatient Acute Care, Committee on Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care, Japanese Pediatric Society, Tokyo, Japan.
Background: Diagnostic errors are harmful and occur at unacceptably high rates. However, data regarding diagnostic errors in pediatric populations, particularly in acute outpatient care settings, remain insufficient. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of diagnostic errors, contributing factors, common symptoms, initial diagnoses, and final diagnoses in pediatric outpatient acute care in Japan and clarify the challenges that should be prioritized for preventing such errors.

This study assessed the impact of the universal rotavirus vaccination program on the burden of diarrheal disease in children under five years of age over a ten-year period, including the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: A mixed ecological time-trend analysis was conducted using national and regional secondary data from surveillance and health information systems.

Adult intussusception is uncommon and usually presents with nonspecific symptoms. Cross-sectional imaging is extremely important for diagnosis. In adults, a lead point is often present and indicates the underlying cause, which can be benign or malignant.

Adult intussusception is an uncommon surgical phenomenon. Computed tomography (CT) is the most sensitive imaging modality to diagnose intussusception. However, given the uncertain aetiology and concern for potential malignancy, surgical intervention remains the gold standard for accurate diagnosis and treatment of adult intussusception.
