Background: The purpose of this research was to investigate the acute effects of a pre-workout supplement on anaerobic performance in resistance-trained men.
Methods: Twenty-three men underwent three randomized, double-blind testing sessions separated by a seven-day break. The participants performed three tests: isokinetic strength, three repetition maximum (3-RM) strength and Wingate. Statistical analysis was conducted in R environment. Linear mixed models were estimated via R package lme4.
Results: Mean T@0.2 s was significantly greater in supplemented condition for right and left knee flexors (PL: 103.2 ± 37.6 Nm; supplemented condition: 131.8 ± 29.3 Nm ( = 0.001)), and PL: 103.7 ± 39.3; supplemented condition: 129.4 ± 28.4 ( = 0.001)). T@0.2 s for right and left knee extensors (PL: 202.6 ± 58.6 Nm; supplemented condition: 237.2 ± 54.7 Nm ( = 0.001); PL: 203.3 ± 63.2 Nm, supplemented condition: 229.8 ± 50.8 Nm ( = 0.002)). Significant difference was in mean anaerobic power between supplemented and PL condition for right and left knee flexors ( = 0.002, = 0.005) and for right and left knee extensors ( = 0.001 and = 0.002). TTP was significantly shorter in supplemented condition for both sides knee flexors ( = 0.002). There was a significant difference for mean power in the Wingate test (placebo: 8.5 ± 0.6 W/kg; supplemented condition: 8.7 ± 0.5 W/kg ( = 0.038)). Mean 3-RM was significantly greater in supplemented condition ( = 0.001).
Conclusions: The supplement significantly improves upper and lower body strength and power output in resistance-trained men.

Currently, symptomatic gastrointestinal (GI) angiodysplasia is treated with argon plasma coagulation (APC) via endoscopic procedures, supplemented with octreotide or thalidomide treatment. However, suboptimal response and side effects are often seen. Bevacizumab, an angiogenesis inhibitor, may provide an alternative systemic therapy for patients with refractory GI angiodysplasia.

Cancer induced skeletal muscle wasting (cachexia) is responsible for over 20% of cancer related deaths, yet much about the pathophysiology of the condition remains unknown. Importantly, cancer cachexia does not seem wholly responsive to traditional anabolic stimuli such as nutritional interventions. It is possible that tumours directly or indirectly target skeletal muscle for their dynamic and abundant pool of amino acids that can be reliably used by tumours to supplement energy production and biomass synthesis.

Humanitarian crises, particularly in conflict zones, create cascading disruptions that impact every aspect of daily life, including health and disease outcomes. While international humanitarian frameworks categorize these crises into discrete operational clusters, affected populations experience them as interwoven, systemic failures. This study examines how conflict-induced disruptions transform a preventable and typically self-limiting disease-Hepatitis A-into a fatal outcome.

Garlic is an important bulb vegetable which is used for both culinary and medical purposes worldwide. In vitro propagation is considered a promising technic for production and conservation of disease-free garlic seed. The efficiency of in vitro culture was studied for micropropagation of native Iranian garlic genotypes.

The size and composition of local species pools are, in part, determined by past dispersal events. Predicting how communities respond to future disturbances, such as fluctuating environmental conditions, requires knowledge of such histories. We assessed the influence of a historical dispersal event on community assembly by simulating various scales of dispersal for 240 serpentine annual plant communities that experienced a large shift from drought to high rainfall conditions over three years.
