An estimated 100 million people inhabit coastal areas at risk from flooding and erosion due to climate change. Seagrass meadows, like other coastal ecosystems, attenuate waves. Due to inconsistencies in how wave attenuation is measured results cannot be directly compared. We synthesised data from laboratory and field experiments of seagrass-wave attenuation by converting measurements to drag coefficients (C). Drag coefficients varied from 0.02-5.12 with C¯ = 0.74 for studies conducted in turbulent flow in non-storm conditions. A statistical model suggested that seagrass species affects C although the exact mechanism remains unclear. A wave model using the estimated C¯ as an input parameter demonstrated that wave attenuation increased with meadow length, shoot density, shoot width and canopy height. Findings can be used to estimate wave attenuation by seagrass, in any given set of conditions.

Understanding seismic attenuation in carbonate rocks is critical for improving reservoir characterization and fluid monitoring during hydrocarbon exploration. This study investigated the behavior of P-wave attenuation (1/ ) during fluid substitution from saltwater to oil in coquina samples from the Morro do Chaves Formation, an analogue of Brazilian pre-salt reservoirs. Laboratory experiments were conducted at an ultrasonic frequency (1.

Vascular aging is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in the older individuals. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the primary active compound in green tea, exhibits cardiovascular protective effects. However, its effect and the underlying mechanism of the same on vascular aging remain unclear.

Introduction: The pathological mechanism of sepsis-related acute lung injury (ALI) is closely linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and pyroptosis. Although low-dose extracorporeal shock wave (SW) therapy has been widely utilized in tissue and organ injury repair, its role in sepsis-related ALI remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of SW on mitochondrial pyroptosis crosstalk in septic ALI.

Transcranial ultrasound localization microscopy (t-ULM) is faced with challenges posed by the skull, including acoustic attenuation and phase aberrations. There is a significant request for an efficient aberration correction method achieving a great balance between computational complexity and accuracy. In this study, the ray theory is first applied to in-vivo transcranial imaging to calculate the traveltime table in the inhomogeneous medium model of the imaging region.

This study aims to investigate the effect of reflection at the soft tissue-bone interface on shock wave propagation within soft tissue using finite element methods. Results showed that reflection caused obvious differences in the propagation process and attenuation characteristics of shock waves. The energy flux density (EFD) at the same target was proportional to the impact pressure.
