Aquatic centres (ACs) are becoming exceedingly popular in the urban agglomerations of cold climate countries like Canada but functioning without assessing the state of their sustainability performance. Previous studies examined health and safety, water and indoor air quality, and energy consumption aspects without aiming at the holistic sustainability performance assessment. The present research is the first systematic effort for benchmarking of ACs. A hierarchical-based framework arranged 81 performance indicators to appraise the key components, including water management, indoor environment, personnel, service quality, energy, social, and operations. Fuzzy AHP and fuzzy mean clustering methods evaluated the identified PIs based on the opinion of experts (from Canadian aquatic centres) on their importance, measurability, and understandability. Finally, the selection process ranked a set of 63 most suitable PIs under 14 sub-criteria. Fuzzy-based methods efficiently handled the subjective scoring process and the difference of opinion among the experts. The criteria performance indices inform the top-level management while the sub-indices stipulate the operations management for honing in the lacking indicators. Using the selected PIs, the AC's management can allocate the available resources for both the short-term (e.g., efficient response to complaints) and long-term (e.g., replacing failed manually operated fixtures with the sensor-operated ones) improvement actions. The selected PIs will enhance the sustainability of ACs in Canada and other cold regions around the globe through a structured benchmarking process.

It is unknown how human health is affected by the current increased consumption of ultra-processed plant-based meat analogues (PBMA). In the present study, rats were fed an experimental diet based on pork or a commercial PBMA, matched for protein, fat, and carbohydrate content for three weeks. Rats on the PBMA diet exhibited metabolic changes indicative of lower protein digestibility and/or dietary amino acid imbalance, alongside increased mesenteric (+38%) and retroperitoneal (+20%) fat depositions despite lower food and energy intake.

This study aimed to analyze the amino acid composition and characterize the sequences of collagen peptides from Skipjack tuna bones (TBCPs) by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and further investigate the function and mechanism of action of TBCPs in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results showed that TBCPs contain 16 types of amino acids, among which glycine is the most abundant, and hydrophobic amino acids account for 40.75 %.

Phosphorylated structural analogs of Benzalkonium Chloride-diisopropoxyphosphorylmethane (dimethyldodecylammonium) bromide 1 (phosphorylated quaternary ammonium salt) and isopropoxyphosphorylmethane (dimethylalkylammonium) 2 (phosphorylated betaine) were synthesized. The dynamic interaction between immune recognition molecules and signaling pathways in the innate immune response of Penaeus monodon to White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) infection is unveiled in this study. Through comprehensive gene expression profiling, we demonstrate significant upregulation of key immune genes, including a specific C-type lectin and a defined ficolin isoform, in WSSV-infected hemocytes, underscoring their pivotal roles in pathogen recognition and antiviral defense. Leveraging advanced molecular techniques, we successfully expressed, purified, and characterized these recombinant proteins, revealing their time-dependent expression and high-affinity binding to lipopolysaccharides (LPS).
