Economical production of highly active and robust Pt catalysts on a large scale is vital to the broad commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Here, we report a low-cost, one-pot process for large-scale synthesis of single-crystal Pt multipods with abundant high-index facets, in an aqueous solution without any template or surfactant. A composite consisting of the Pt multipods (40 wt %) and carbon displays a specific activity of 0.242 mA/cm and a mass activity of 0.109 A/mg at 0.9 V (versus a reversible hydrogen electrode) for oxygen reduction reaction, corresponding to ∼124% and ∼100% enhancement compared with those of the state-of-the-art commercial Pt/C catalyst (0.108 mA/cm and 0.054 A/mg). The single-crystal Pt multipods also show excellent stability when tested for 4500 cycles in a potential range of 0.6-1.1 V and another 2000 cycles in 0-1.2 V. More importantly, the superior performance of the Pt multipods/C catalyst is also demonstrated in a membrane electrode assembly (MEA), achieving a power density of 774 mW/cm (1.29 A/cm) at 0.6 V and a peak power density of ∼1 W/cm, representing 34% and 20% enhancement compared with those of a MEA based on the state-of-the-art commercial Pt/C catalyst (576 and 834 mW/cm).

African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a large DNA virus that causes a highly lethal disease in pigs and currently has no effective vaccines or antiviral treatments available. We designed a protein switch that combines the DNase domain of colicin E9 (DNase E9) and its inhibitor Im9 with the viral protease cleavage site. The complex is only destroyed in the presence of an ASFV pS273R protease, which releases DNase activity.

Sequential assembly of donor-acceptor components at the molecular level within a MOF is an effective strategy to achieve efficient electron-hole separation for enhancing the activity of photocatalysts. Meanwhile, the highly efficient and selective functionalization of tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) under mild conditions remains an urgent demand in both the scientific and industrial communities. This work reports a donor-acceptor MOF photocatalyst () constructed by the coordinated assembly of donor and acceptor components, in which a naphthalene unit serves as an electron donor and a perylenediimide unit as an electron acceptor.

Importance: Sleep disturbances are common during and after the menopause transition, with potential effects on morbidity and quality of life; however, they may be underdiagnosed and undertreated.
Objective: We carried out a systematic literature review to investigate the prevalence and impact of sleep disturbances associated with menopause on women's health-related quality of life across the stages of menopause.
Evidence Review: Searches were conducted in PubMed and Excerpta Medica Database to identify articles published between 2013 and 2023 containing evidence for the impact of sleep quality on health-related quality of life and the epidemiology of sleep disturbances in women in menopause.

This study demonstrates the successful fabrication of nanostructured Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films combining the conjugated copolymer poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene--3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PDOF--PEDOT) with spherical and triangular silver nanoparticles (AgNP). The LB technique allowed precise control over the molecular arrangement and distribution of the nanoparticles at the air-water interface, resulting in compact, reproducible and structurally ordered nanocomposite films. The structural and morphological properties of the interfacial monolayers and LB films were investigated using surface pressure-area isotherms, Brewster angle microscopy, polarization modulation infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) and quartz crystal microbalance.

Effective degradation and detoxification of the highly toxic organophosphate pesticide methyl parathion (MP) are important for pollution treatment and sustainable development. Enzymatic hydrolysis of MP by organophosphate hydrolase (OPH) is an effective way. However, hydrolytic product 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) remains environmentally hazardous.
