The aim of this study was to investigate the physicochemical properties of chitosan (CS) based composite films with the incorporation of hemicelluloses (HC). Films were obtained via direct immersion method and characterized in terms of structural and morphological properties by FT-IR, XRD, XPS, SEM and EDS. By combining with the increased HC loading efficiency (L) and swelling property (S) of films with the increased HC content to 5%, this study proved the increased hydrogen bond interactions between CS and HC. Films with the tensile strength of 32.81 ± 4.97 MPa and elongation at break of 39.63 ± 4.67% were obtained with 3% HC and 20% glycerol (GC). The water vapor permeability (WVP) of films developed with the increased HC and GC contents, while the oxygen permeability (OP) decreased. Moreover, antibacterial testing indicated that all films exhibited the increased growth inhibition against E. coli and S. aureus as increasing TiO content.

For photodetection applications using 3D hybrid perovskites (HPs), dense and thick films or compacted powders in wafer form are needed and generally require large amounts of HPs. HPs are also often combined with a graphene/carbon layer to improve their conductivity. Among HP synthesis methods, mechanosynthesis, a green synthesis method, provides a large amount of powders, which are furthermore easily densified in compact wafers due to their mechanical activation.

The present research reports the synthesis of poly-[ethylene oxide]-based composite films (500 μm) containing metal nanoparticles (NPs) [Ag ( ∼ 6 nm), Cu ( ∼ 25 nm), and Fe ( ∼ 35 nm)] as the mobile phase. The novelty of the study is in the corroboration of a plausible mechanism for the generation of metal NPs through green synthesis using herbal extracts of (Tea) and (Neem). Density functional theory (DFT) is used to optimize the phytoreductants present in both biosources, wherein the reducing and/or stabilizing functional entities are primarily hydroxyl groups (-OH).

The crystallization of lead zirconate titanate thin films on thick, rigid glass is previously demonstrated using flash lamp annealing to selectively anneal the films, without damaging the substrates. In this work, a 2-step process suitable for Schott AF 32 eco glass and Corning Willow glass is developed, both 100 μm thick, the latter of which is compatible with roll-to-roll processes.

Electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia is a sustainable, cost-effective alternative method for producing renewable electricity and can operate under milder conditions than the traditional Haber-Bosch method. We report direct laser-induced synthesis of copper nanocatalysts embedded in graphitic films for the synthesis of ammonia. Laser-induced metal-embedded graphene (m-LIG) offers many advantages, such as fast and simple synthesis, shape design of the electrodes, and direct printing on any substrate, including thermally sensitive plastics.
