A study by Allen and Schuengel in this issue of the journal replicates and extends previous findings by Woolgar and Baldock (2015) indicating that community practitioners are far more likely to diagnose reactive attachment disorder in symptomatic children than are specialists using well-validated measures. We consider historic variability in how this disorder is defined but note an emerging consensus in nosologies and among researchers. We consider how more systematic assessments might improve diagnostic efforts to specify the kinds of clinical phenomena that are associated with neglect and deprivation.

In this study, we develop a hyaluronic-tannic acid (HA-TA) hydrogel loaded with Cu nanoparticles attach to MXene (MXene@Cu) to explore its potential as a targeted breast cancer treatment. The MXene@Cu nanosheets exhibit activity in depleting glutathione (GSH) and inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) through the Fenton-like reaction. They can down-regulate the activity of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), leading to the accumulation of lipid peroxides (LPO) and inducing ferroptosis in tumor cells.

Quantum mechanical tunnelling significantly influences the reactivity of strained ring systems, yet strategies for controlling such reactivity remain largely unexplored. Here, we identify geminal hyperconjugation, , electron delocalization between σ-bonds attached to a common atom, as a decisive electronic factor in governing heavy-atom tunnelling reactions involving three-membered rings. We illustrate this through a case study of the oxepin (1') ⇌ benzene oxide (1) equilibrium, recently shown to undergo solvent-controlled tunnelling at 3 K (, 2020, , 20318).

Genetically-encoded libraries of peptide-derived macrocycles containing electrophile 'warheads' (cGELs) can be used to identify potent and selective covalent ligands for protein targets. Such cGELs are synthesized either by incorporation of unnatural amino acids that display mild electrophiles on their side chains or by chemical post-translational modification (cPTM) of mRNA or phage-displayed peptide libraries. Here we investigate fundamental barriers to the synthesis of cGELs.
