Article Abstract

Variation in cell-type decomposition can be of interest to changes in biology by themselves, or a confounder in comparing admixed samples with different phenotypes. Here, I present and review various algorithms that may be used for purposes of deconvolving epigenomic data from admixed samples to yield estimates that may be factored into downstream analyses. More specifically, I present a protocol based on an adaptation of the CIBERSORT algorithm, previously developed for gene-expression, to methylation data.

The increasing availability of diverse biobanks has enabled multi-ancestry genome-wide association studies (GWASs) to enhance the discovery of genetic variants across traits and diseases. However, the choice of an optimal method remains debated, due to challenges in statistical power differences across ancestral groups and approaches to account for population structure. Two primary strategies exist: (1) pooled analysis, which combines individuals from all genetic backgrounds into a single dataset while adjusting for population stratification using principal components, increasing the sample size and statistical power but requiring careful control of population stratification; and (2) meta-analysis, which performs ancestry-group-specific GWASs and subsequently combines summary statistics, potentially capturing fine-scale population structure but facing limitations in handling admixed individuals.

Opioids are commonly prescribed to manage acute postoperative pain. However, individuals vary in their opioid dosing needs, with no validated biomarkers to guide prescribing. We used electronic health records (EHR) data from the Million Veteran Program sample to investigate individual differences in opioid analgesic dosing following knee (n=18,540) or hip (n=9,363) arthroplasty.

Aim: Effect of Er Cr: YSGG laser (ECL), ytterbium fiber laser (YFL), Rose Bengal (RB) activated low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on the surface roughness (Ra) and shear bond strength (SBS) of yttrium-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) bonded to resin cement.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-four 3Y-TZP discs were prepared, and subsequently, categorized into four distinct groups based on the conditioning regimen (n=16): Group 1 (SB), Group 2 (ECL), Group 3 (YFL), and Group 4 (LLLT-RB). The Ra assessment was performed on five samples from each group using a profilometer.

Lacrimal cysts (dacryops), which involve lacrimal tissue, are uncommon in dogs with an obscure/unclear pathogenesis. Compared to the current available literature, this report describes the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features of two cases of unusual dacryops in brachycephalic dogs. A three-year-old male Cane Corso was referred with a 1-month history of swelling ventromedial to the left eye associated with blepharospasm and epiphora.
