Article Abstract

Graph theory-based reaction pathway searches (ACE-Reaction program) and density functional theory calculations were performed to shed light on the mechanisms for the production of [a + H], x, y, z, and [y + 2H] fragments formed in free radical-initiated peptide sequencing (FRIPS) mass spectrometry measurements of a small model system of glycine-glycine-arginine (GGR). In particular, the graph theory-based searches, which are rarely applied to gas-phase reaction studies, allowed us to investigate reaction mechanisms in an exhaustive manner without resorting to chemical intuition. As expected, radical-driven reaction pathways were favorable over charge-driven reaction pathways in terms of kinetics and thermodynamics. Charge- and radical-driven pathways for the formation of [y + 2H] fragments were carefully compared, and it was revealed that the [y + 2H] fragments observed in our FRIPS MS spectra originated from the radical-driven pathway, which is in contrast to the general expectation. The acquired understanding of the FRIPS fragmentation mechanism is expected to aid in the interpretation of FRIPS MS spectra. It should be emphasized that graph theory-based searches are powerful and effective methods for studying reaction mechanisms, including gas-phase reactions in mass spectrometry.

The atmospheric chemistry of volatile organic compounds (VOC) has a major influence on atmospheric pollutants and particle formation. Accurate modeling of this chemistry is essential for air quality models. Complete representations of VOC oxidation chemistry are far too large for spatiotemporal simulations of the atmosphere, necessitating reduced mechanisms.

Three-Dimensional Point Cloud Reconstruction of Unstructured Terrain for Autonomous Robots.

Sensors (Basel)

August 2025

College of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, Minjiang University, Fuzhou 350108, China.

In scenarios such as field exploration, disaster relief, and agricultural automation, LIDAR-based reconstructed terrain models can largely contribute to robot activities such as passable area identification and path planning optimization. However, unstructured terrain environments are typically absent and poorly characterized by artificially labeled features, which makes it difficult to find reliable feature correspondences in the point cloud between two consecutive LiDAR scans. Meanwhile, the persistence of noise accompanying unstructured terrain environments also causes certain difficulties in finding reliable feature correspondences between two consecutively scanned point clouds, which in turn leads to lower matching accuracy and larger offsets between neighboring frames.

Objective: This investigation was designed to analyze alterations in functional connectivity across brain networks associated with cognitive fatigue through electroencephalogram (EEG) data analysis. Through the application of both global and local graph-theoretical metrics to characterize the topology of brain networks, this study establishes a conceptual framework supporting enhanced detection of cognitive fatigue manifestations while facilitating examination of its neurophysiological substrates.

Methods: The study cohort comprised neurologically intact individuals aged 20-35 years, recruited from Beijing Rehabilitation Hospital, Capital Medical University between February 6 and September 30, 2024 for participation in a cognitive fatigue induction task.

Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) tend to have white-matter network and glymphatic system dysfunction, and may experience cognitive decline and psychiatric abnormalities. This study explored the relationships between graph theory-based white-matter networks and diffusion tensor image analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) and the choroid plexus volume (CPV).

Methods: Sixty-one CKD patients, including 22 non-dialysis dependent (NDD) and 39 dialysis-dependent (DD) patients, and 43 age-, gender-, and education-matched healthy control (HC) participants were recruited for the study.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) continues to be a threat to public health. An emerging technique with promise in the context of fighting HIV type 1 (HIV-1) focuses on targeting ribosomal frameshifting. A crucial -1 programmed ribosomal frameshift (PRF) has been observed in several pathogenic viruses, including HIV-1.
