Amyloid-β (Aβ) is implicated in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and plays a significant role in neuronal degeneration. Aβ in solution is essential during the initial stages of developing lead compounds that influence Aβ fibrillation. The tendency of the Aβ peptide to misfold in solution is correlated with the etiology of AD.

Background: Pulsed electric field ablation (PFA) techniques for treating cardiac arrhythmias have attracted considerable interest. For example, atrial fibrillation can be effectively treated by pulmonary vein isolation using PFA. However, some arrhythmias originate deep within the myocardium, making them difficult to reach with conventional ablation methods.

This study explores the potential for artificial agents to develop core consciousness, as proposed by Antonio Damasio's theory of consciousness. According to Damasio, the emergence of core consciousness relies on the integration of a self model, informed by representations of emotions and feelings, and a world model. We hypothesize that an artificial agent, trained via reinforcement learning (RL) in a virtual environment, can develop preliminary forms of these models as a byproduct of its primary task.

The startle response is a reflexive contraction of skeletal musculature in response to a strong acoustic stimulus that is evolutionarily preserved across species. There is a broad and comprehensive literature connecting components of the startle response such as latency, magnitude and pre-pulse inhibition, to psychosis status and risk. In this review, we examine the startle response in human subjects with 22q11.
