The interband cascade laser (ICL) is an ideal candidate for low-power mid-infrared frequency comb spectroscopy. In this work, we demonstrate that its intracavity second-order optical nonlinearity induces a coherent up-conversion of the generated mid-infrared light to the near-infrared through second-harmonic and sum-frequency generation. At 1.8 µm, 10 mW of light at 3.6 µm convert into sub-nanowatt levels of optical power, spread across 30 nm of spectral coverage. The observed linear-to-nonlinear conversion efficiency exceeds ${3\;{\unicode{x00B5} {\rm W/W}}^2}$3µW/W in continuous wave operation. We use a dual-band ICL frequency comb source to characterize water vapor absorption in both spectral bands.

The influenza vaccination rate among the elderly in China remains suboptimal. As key figures in effective intervention strategies, the perspectives of primary healthcare workers (PHCWs) on this issue have not been explored yet. This study aims to use the capability, opportunity, motivation-behavior (COM-B) model to identify the factors that influence influenza vaccination among the elderly from the perspective of PHCWs in China, analyze the mechanisms, and formulate targeted intervention strategies.

We report on numerical predictions and experimental observations of a novel type of temporal localized dissipative structures that manifest themselves in the self-defocusing regime of driven nonlinear optical resonators with two polarization modes. These chiral dissipative solitons, which we term "polarization faticons," break both temporal and polarization symmetry and consist of two bright lobes of opposite polarization handedness, interlocked by a domain wall. Our study reveals that faticons are connected to a vectorial modulational instability, from which they can be excited through a collapsing dynamic.

Time-varying media break temporal translation symmetry, enabling advanced wave manipulation. However, this phenomenon remains largely unexplored in magnonic systems due to the challenge of achieving rapid and significant changes in magnon dispersion. Here, we construct a time-varying strong coupling between two magnon modes and observe chirped Rabi-like oscillations near the pulse edges.

Introduction: Acupoint Catgut Embedding (ACE), also known as acupuncture catgut implantation, exerts analgesic effects by inhibiting Sig-1R. This study aimed to evaluate the modulatory effect of ACE on Sig-1R and its mechanism of action in alleviating nerve pain.
Methods: We assessed behavioral changes in mechanosensitive and thermosensitive pain in rats.

Background: Lyme disease (LD) is Canada's most common tick-borne disease (TBD), with other tick-borne pathogens being detected with increasing frequency. Tick bite prevention remains the most effective preventive measure against TBDs, yet individual preventive behaviours are not always adopted by at-risk individuals. This is concerning, given that the incidence of TBDs is predicted to increase with climate change.
