Mountains contribute disproportionately to the terrestrial biodiversity of Earth, especially in the tropics, where they host hotspots of extraordinary and puzzling richness. With about 25% of all land area, mountain regions are home to more than 85% of the world's species of amphibians, birds, and mammals, many entirely restricted to mountains. Biodiversity varies markedly among these regions. Together with the extreme species richness of some tropical mountains, this variation has proven challenging to explain under traditional climatic hypotheses. However, the complex climatic characteristics of rugged mountain regions differ fundamentally from those of lowland regions, likely playing a key role in generating and maintaining diversity. With ongoing global changes in climate and land use, the role of mountains as refugia for biodiversity may well come under threat.

This study investigates the spatial and temporal distribution and the influencing factors of 579 cultural heritage sites along the Qin-Shu Ancient Road in Shaanxi Province, employing kernel density estimation, buffer analysis, and geographic detectors. Three key findings emerge: (1) The spatial pattern is characterized by a "line-belt-core" structure, with a belt-like aggregation along the Xi'an-Baoji-Hanzhong axis. Core concentrations are found in Xi'an (181 sites), Hanzhong (159 sites), and Ankang (122 sites), with secondary concentrations in Baoji (72 sites) and Shangluo (36 sites).

This study aims to assess the livelihood vulnerability to climate change of ethnic minority communities in Yen Bai province, a typical mountainous region in northern Vietnam. Utilizing the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) framework developed by Hahn et al. (2009), in combination with the IPCC vulnerability structure, the research analyzes eight components related to household characteristics, health, food, water, housing and productive land, social and financial networks, livelihood strategies, and exposure to climate shocks.

Vitamin D is critically important for sustainable human health, and the rising prevalence of deficiency-related diseases has increased interest in natural sources. This study explores the potential of epiphytic lichen-forming fungi, known for their unique metabolites, as a novel biosource of vitamin D for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications. Fourteen epiphytic lichen species were collected using a stratified sampling method from four mountainous forests in the Marmara Region of Türkiye.
